Best BBQ Rest !
I had no idea that this Sonny’s BBQ
rest. that we went last night for our dinner is their first rest. No wonder the inside of the rest. look the same and I guess that’s the beauty of it in terms of the atmosphere , to retain the history of the restaurant . Their food is delicious and it’s always packed but able to find a parking spot . Prices wise is reasonable . So if you’re into BBQ this is the rest. to GO ❤️!

Our server, Heather, was wonderful. My husband’s prime rib sandwich was room temperature and after eating some of it he said something. She promptly asked her manager for a remake and it came out piping hot and tasted outstanding. She was super friendly and her service was excellent. The food was good and the only problem we had they made it right ASAP. Recommend not only this Sonny’s but in particular ask for Heather to be your server 🙂

We visited Sonny’s tonight with a large group. Heather was our server and handled our rowdy bunch quite well. She took orders and filled drinks quickly. Our food was correct and Heather made sure we had everything we needed. Definitely a positive experience.

I’m a life long resident and have a long history with this restaurant. Many years ago there was only Sonny’s BBQ. They still set the standard for great BBQ. The food is amazing and the service is excellent. I enjoyed the pulled white chicken sandwich with Baked Beans. Always a great meal and I am glad I can still enjoy and recommend them for lunch or dinner. Enjoy

I tried to call in an order, but didn’t do it because the young woman at the window took offence when I let her listen to my phone that was still on hold 16 minutes .. after she told me to wait just a minute. She promptly told me she was the only one there …. So when asked if I wanted to order I said no, and she threw out “Ok Karen”. Not ok. Rude and disrespectful, and we will NO T go to Sonnys on Waldo Rd again. I spoke the the manager, and he was barely apologetic. We went to Hogan’s. They are always nice.

The original Sonny’s! How cool! We ate a quick meal here before a flight out of Gainesville. My first Cuban on toast, but it wss delicious.
Too bad corporate doesn’t invest a few dollars to make their original restaurant a little nicer.

This is the original Sonny’s. Any chance I get to eat at one in my Florida travels, I will. It’s not the best I’ve ever had, but it’s always solid, great flavors, large portions, and tons of childhood nostalgia that brings it home for me. Big Deal, chopped brisket on garlic bread with cole slaw to top, famous baked beans. Sweet tea as well. No complaints.

Great experience all around. The food was excellent and prepared exactly as ordered, with great flavor and perfect temperature. Service was fast, friendly, and attentive, which made the visit even better.
The atmosphere was comfortable, clean, and welcoming, and the staff clearly works hard to keep things running smoothly. Overall, a very positive visit—I’ll definitely be back and would recommend this location to others.

The food was absolutely horrible. The morale has definitely left the building. We placed an order for pickup and the employees just seemed bothered, the food was sub-par. I was so disappointed, my husband had never been to one and I had told him about the great food….someone tell me why 2 kids pulled pork sandwiches looked exactly like the adult spicy Carolina (fyi we didnt even get the coleslaw to go on it or the right sauce…who puts smoked ranch on their pulled pork overall we won’t be coming back and its a shame because I’ve got history with Sonnys BBQ
