An absolute hidden gem at Carillon Park!
We brought my parents here for a Christmas visit, and even though it was our first time, it’s definitely becoming a new tradition. The atmosphere is incredible—my dad absolutely loved the nostalgia of eating inside the 1903 railcar.
You can tell this is a family-owned spot. Danny, our server, was fantastic, and his dad (the chef) is clearly talented. The food presentation was beautiful, almost like something out of a Food Network competition.
What we ordered:
Breakfast Burrito: It was the special of the day. My mom practically licked her plate clean!
French Toast: Comes with delicious house-made fruit preserves. Fluffy and perfect.
Veggie Burger: Also house-made and very flavorful.
Club Sandwich: Huge portion and looked amazing.
Prices are very reasonable (around $14-$17), and you definitely get quality for your money.
One suggestion: I really wish they offered a plant based ice cream option! The Nectar Cream Soda looked delicious, but I couldn’t try it this time.
Highly recommend for anyone looking for great local food and a unique atmosphere!

I stopped at Culp’s near the end of the lunch period and it still a little busy. I ordered the soup of the day, Pumpkin ($7), and it was delicious, but it was pretty small serving for the cost. The Smash Burger ($16) was my lunch entree. The burger came with two patties with all the fixings and a large side serving of kettle chips. YUM YUM! Danny C. was personable, but the food service was a little slow and my soup came out with the burger instead of first as I requested.

This was my second time to Culps Cafe. The first visit did not start out well because I sat for twenty minutes before anyone waited on me. A nice server actually picked our table up and turned what was a disappointment into a decent experience. I reached out to the manager, Carol, and shared with her my experience. Carol and I had a great exchange and she invited me back for a second visit. Today I returned for a second chance at a first impression and it did not go well at all. Once again, I was seated and it all went downhill from there. Six servers on staff and not one of them stopped by my table to take my order or anything. I waited twenty minutes and then I left. On my way out of the door, I stopped and asked to speak with a manager and when I told him what was happening, he just shrugged his shoulders and said , sorry. I asked for Carol and another employee went and got her. Carol and I spoke again and she was very nice and apologized again, and she offered to purchase my breakfast for today, but I declined because after two visits and the very same thing happening, I just wasn’t in the mood. I’m sure Carol will reach out again and we’ll speak again. If you’re thinking of dining here, just be aware that the service is very lackluster and Culps should consider training their staff to better accommodate and serve their guests in a much more timely manner.

This was our first time to Culp’s and it won’t be our last! Excellent food selection and ambience. We ordered the chicken and waffles, salad, and soup, and want to come back for the old-fashioned soda fountain experience next time. We had spent the morning in Carillon Park and just wanted something easy for lunch. We were very pleasantly surprised!

I had the bacon and fig jam sandwich. I also stole a few bites of shrimp and grits bowl. Both were fantastic and amongst the best breakfast dishes Ive had in Dayton! The strawberry milkshake was great as well.
Cute decor and attire for the staff.
The service we received from our waitress AJ was extremely kind and attentive. Would definitely return and recommend.

I cannot rate this any higher! From the moment we stepped into this place, it takes you back to simpler times. Our waiter Dean was incredible and honestly one of the most chilled and happy guys I’ve ever had. He had the most relaxed and calm demeanour and he served so excellently, he definitely is a great asset to your team and deserves some attention and praise for his professionalism
Now going into the most important section, THE FOOD. Goodness me it was so so good. A simple classic menu with fresh ingredients and cooked effortlessly, if you want delicious food as well as quality service, this place is it!
Not to mention how reasonable the pricing is, it’s so well priced and you’re actually paying really good low prices for such great food and attentive service. I only review the best places and this place gets my vote for the most underrated place in the whole of Dayton area. This definitely deserves more hype and attention. Please pay this amazing Cafe and of course the historical museum of Dayton a visit! A literal step back in time and a rare diamond among cafes. ✨️

Last night we went to Carillon Park for the lights and dinner. We ate at Culp’s Cafe for the first time-what a treat! We sat in the train and we were greeted by Danny who set the tone for a great meal and experience. The food was delicious- the roast beef was made by Danny’s father and was SPECTACULAR!! We are excited for our next visit to try other things on the menu. This is family run and you feel like family when you are there.

The moment the eggs benedict was placed before me, I was captivated by its presentation. It was a visual masterpiece—tasted just as good as it looked.
Would highly recommend the Veggie Benny.
