I decided to try this place for lunch today based on having a craving for Chinese food. I have often driven by and wondered if this place was actually open based on not seeing many cars out front or just based on the conditions of their building.

Today I noticed one of the local PD cars out front so I decided to give it a shot. The dining room is nothing special with literal table and chairs on an open floor. To say it was minimal would be an understatement. The decor looked very dated and kind of gross. The bathroom was not much better with the actual smell of raw sewage. It probably didn’t help to have a dirty mop and bucket in the bathroom. The bathroom was also out of hand soap.

The food was surprisingly very tasty and truly flavorful. I opted for one of the lunch specials. The portion sizes were very large and there was plenty of food provided. The meal started with my choice of soup, which I selected the hot and sour. It was hot and tasty. Then I got the main course with pork fried rice and crab Rangoons. Everything was flavorful with the exception of the crab rangoon. They were small and rather flavorless.

If you are going to get something to go this would probably be my opinion vs sitting down for a meal. The service was good but the conditions of the actual restaurant were not welcoming or provided much hope for a good meal.

We just oreded a take out and … What happened to the quality of this place.? It was used to be one of the best place to eat. We orded the whole fried fish..taste like freezer burned. Nothing fresh about it. Fried calamari texture was like spoiled…. we are bringing it back. Snow pea tips…. tasted like it was boiled. Not sautéed with garlic. What a disappointing dinner.

Best Chinese in Belle Chasse by far!!
Meal on the left is the honey chicken, pork fried rice and an egg roll. Meal on the right is the general chicken, shrimp fried rice and an egg roll. Both very delicious and came out pretty quick (maybe 10 minutes at most after we ordered). We have found our new favorite spot!

Alright…as an Asian American who prefers Cantonese cuisine and just visited Vancouver and Hong Kong this year, the meccas of Cantonese food, this place will not live up to the standard.

You’re in BELLE CHASE, Louisiana. What did you expect? Is it great? Ummm, it’s reasonable, I guess.

For solid Chinese food, Houston is great. Dallas is good. Belle Chase? It’s okay enough. We ordered:

Lobster—better than American style
Snow pea leaves? Missing the Wok-hei
Bird nest noodles—solid
Barbecue pork? Okay but some old school Chinese people like it
Duck? Solid
Soy sauce white fish with cilantro? Pretty good.
Salted fish fried rice? Mildly burnt this time. Good salted fish though.

For New Orleans? It’s 3.5 star but I’ll round up. For Houston? 3 star. Look, if you’re an American wanting to upgrade out of buffets and Chinese fast food deep in the bayou, sure. Enjoy.

I was stationed down at NAS JRB for a few years, that was about 8 years ago. I still talk about this Chinese joint as if it were the holy grail. The portions are great, the quality is top notch and the price is solid. I could eat for an entire day off of 1 meal and on my measly army budget, that’s what’s up. I want to reiterate that the food is really really good, really good. I ate here often and had no shame about it.

Ive had g tsos chicken, shrimp fried rice, shrimp lo mein, and the crab rangoon. Everything is top tier. If you want a vheap low quality take out, dont come here. They are doing chinese food right. Its hard not to eat here everyday. Other chinese restaurants should follow suit.

Our food came out so fast. I had the honey chicken it was good, but the fried rice was amazing. The rice was cooked to perfection, plus is soaked up some of the honey dressing! Absolutely some of the best rice I had while in New Orleans.
