Wow… what a place. I’m sure Gnar Bar was at its prime about a decade ago, but these days it’s just a neglected venue holding on for dear life. Dive bars can be cute and kitschy, but this one is just gross.
It is very obvious that the owners have gone on to pursue other ventures and have completely forgotten about this place.
I’ve been here twice and both times they had plumbing issues. 1st time the women’s toilet wouldn’t flush and there was a mountain of toilet paper in the bowl (real nice ladies). 2nd time they had such a serious plumbing issue they had to shut down comedy in the back patio in order to snake the drain. I’m confident at this point that the bathrooms aren’t even functional and simply exist for… other activities.
This place needs some serious attention and TLC from the owners. Based off their Instagrams they all seem to be doing pretty well for themselves, so why not reinvest money back into the bar?

Got here around 7pm and this place is straight up disgusting. Left feeling like i need to deepscrub myself in a shower. Bathrooms are not serviced and smell like one giant urinal. No craft drinks here. Cool decor and probably a nice spot to be at when you’re completely wasted…

Unfortunately as a black woman I felt very uncomfortable with the bouncer. He was way too aggressive for my liking. He thought I had a fake license just because my lip liner got on it. I keep one in my purse and it was never that serious the way he reacted. He seemed like he was on something. I am way far over 21 and that was ridiculous. I was clearly on the wrong side of 6th street.

I’ve been a lot of places. London, NYC, New Orleans, Miami.. and I was ecstatic to come to Austin! It’s my first night here and I popped in for music and a few drinks here. The music was great and 2 of my friends and I were having so much fun! But that abruptly ended when we sat in the back for the comedy performance. I was seated for less than 5 minutes when the “comedian” dissed both my hair and asked our group when we gained all the weight together?
Weight shaming?? Hiring someone who will do this to guests who are patronizing your establishment?

I went to this bar for the cool music they play and the skate atmosphere.
I was having a great time. Everything was going well and the vibes was chill. The bartender even went to the back to get more captain for me.
It was a Monday night and kind of slow.
I really was having a good time.
A cute girl started to talk to me. I have to say that doesn’t happen too often for me but we hit it off.
All of a sudden the bartender says that I have to leave. I only had 3 drinks and a beer. I was buzzed but no where near drunk. I was dumbfounded. When I asked what I did he said “you know what you did.”
I’m sorry no I don’t. I didn’t break anything, go number 2 in the urinal, start a fight with someone. I was literally having a pleasant conversation with a girl.
To anyone reading this I want you to know I’m being honest. I’ve been kick out of bars once or twice and each time I woke up in the morning in shame and knew why or what I did.
I swear on my Nana grave I have no clue what I did, I was not drunk.
I hope the bartender reads this. You’re pathetic dude. I can only assume that you kicked me out because I was talking to a girl that you were trying to talk to. Im beyond words to describe how much of a low life you are. You mentioned how you were not married. Don’t fret just keep on hitting on your costumers you’ll find love.
Like I said bar was great good music.
But that bartender, dude YOU know what you did. I don’t need to step on someone’s toes to talk to girls. Your insecurities are showing and women can pick up on that dude. Did you luck out with her? Hope you did.
