I am leaving a five-star review because I absolutely love the food here and the staff members are usually very nice—especially the friendly cashier, who is always so wonderful. As a lifelong resident of New Smyrna, I have considered the Dutch Oven Bread Co. a truly welcome addition to our lovely town. I have been a faithful customer since the day they opened; their menu is fantastic, and my husband and I believe their bagels are every bit as good as the ones you’d find in New York. I always look forward to my Saturday morning routine of visiting the farmer’s market and then waiting in line for my weekly bread.
However, my experience during this most recent visit was dampened by a confusing and somewhat curt interaction with an employee. When I followed the person in front of me inside, I was told I should have stayed outside. When I immediately offered to step back out, I was told, “Never mind, you’re already here,” in a very unwelcoming tone.
I completely understand that everyone has bad days, especially in such a busy environment, and I don’t want to punish anyone for a one-time mood. However, I don’t feel comfortable spending my money where I don’t feel welcome, so I have decided to move on. While I know my individual business is just a drop in the bucket for a place this popular, I am sharing this strictly as constructive feedback—offered with kindness and respect—in hopes it helps with future customer interactions. I still wish them the best, as their food truly is excellent.

Everything is fantastic here but let me tell you about this cookie dough croissant… this thing is the perfect match between crunchy, and soft. Or should I say BUTTERY FLAKEY CRUST. This croissant has no right being this good. So good makes me want to disrespect my surroundings. So good it makes me want to scream it on the roof tops. I LOVE DUTCH OVEN <3

Woke craving a Cinnabon yesterday so went in search of Nsb’s best cinnamon roll! Heard that Dutch Oven Bread Co was pretty good so gave it a whirl.

This little bakery is located on Canal St, between City Bistro and Sotheby’s. It looks farmhouse rustic brick outside, very appealing and quite charming. Hours posted were open 9a-2p.

There were a few people outside when I got there, only 1 in line inside in front of me, 4-5 patrons waiting for their order. Inside is tight, a few tables but it appears to be more of a grab and go location.

The display case was well stocked with Danishes, other fun looking breads, croissants, and several really yummy looking baked items priced $5-$7ish. Time through the line was super quick ! They also served coffees.

Their cinnamon buns were $6.50 each, appeared thick, but a little thin on frosting on top so I asked if I could pay for a side of frosting. The little gal behind the counter informed me they didn’t provide that service and curtly went in to ask if that was all lol! Ohhhhkay then!

Thankfully, the cinnamon roll was really very good. The texture was light and fluffy, there wasn’t too much cinnamon, it was warm and really well made. The frosting layer is really thin and comes up short but overall, a solid 4/5.

Saturday morning in nsb brings a ton of locals to the shops. So many are beyond charming and go the extra mile in friendliness, was just a little taken back but the short response, but I believe in second chances and would try the bakery again.

The service was REALLY fast, I loved that part. It was a beautiful day, perfect low 70s, and Christmas cheer was all around. Love NSB on a Saturday morning!

Like this review and Follow Sassy beach girl on meta pretty please – I’ll be reviewing several other nsb locations soon!

Every bite of bread and pastries have been Astounding. The crispy layers of their almond croissant w/ almond paste filling has me coming back continually. The breads are creatively crafted works of art. Lightly structured, yet without the heavy density of most sourdoughs. They digest easy with delightful combinations. Thank you Duch Oven

Dutch Oven Bread Co. is such a special place. I love that it started out as a homegrown passion and has grown into a beautiful storefront; it truly shows in the care and quality of everything they do. You can feel the heart behind the business, and it makes supporting them even better. The bread is UNREAL! So fresh and flavorful. Can’t wait to snag some more sourdough bagels tomorrow!

As a northerner who resides in NSB area in the winter months, I was seeing posts of this new sourdough bakery and couldn’t wait to visit. I stopped late in the day yesterday and grabbed a couple bagels and a baguette. The shop workers were very friendly & helpful. I had the baguette that evening. Everything I wanted it to be! This morning I had the bagel and let me tell you it is my FAVORITE! Tied with my go to NYC bagel bakery! However this bagel is lighter and flavorful (not dense like NYC bagels). I cannot wait to go back and try their other items! Do not pass up on this gem of a bakery in NSB!

Yes it’s worth the wait in line. Melt in your mouth pastries. Bagels authentic. Haven’t tried the sourdough yet but I’m confident it’s fantastic. Go early wait in line, get what you want… go later….no lines and maybe they have sold out your desired item. Doesn’t matter! Everything fantastic.
