Breakfast this morning with my grandson was a great way to start the day. He had the pancakes, which he enjoyed, and I ordered Joe’s Big Breakfast: two eggs (any style), hash browns, two sausages, bacon, toast, and I added a side of cheesy grits.
The sausage was savory and well-seasoned, easily one of the highlights of the plate. The home fries were good too, and I loved the added touch of peppers. My eggs were ordered over medium but came out a bit overcooked — and if you know me, you know I love dunking my toast into the yolk. The toast itself was nicely toasted, though I personally would’ve liked a little more butter.
The grits were hot, velvety, and cheesy — you could see the creaminess when you scooped them up. So good.
I also loved seeing Frank’s RedHot and salt shakers filled with rice on the tables. That little detail just felt like home to me.
Service was a little slow, but it looked like a lot of orders were coming through the POS system. Still, the atmosphere was pleasant — light music playing in the background and easy small talk with the staff made it feel welcoming.
I’ll definitely be back, especially to try the shrimp and grits.

Best food you can get in town hands down. The people who work there are extremely accommodating and warm. I had the fried fish and the sweet potato cornbread. Highkey the best cornbread I’ve ever had in my life. I’ve never had sweet potato cornbread before until I ate here. It was delish.

Shoutout to Joe the owner who checked in on us to make sure everything was going well, and bonus, he’s a Steelers fan! HERE WE GO!! cannot wait to come back and visit. We came all the way from Brooklyn NY, and we are already planning our next trip out here. Thank you Joe + crew

We had such a wonderful experience at Goo eat’n! The food was absolutely excellent fresh, flavorful, and made with so much care. The service matched the food warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. From the moment we walked in, we felt like family with family.
There’s such a special energy in the space, the kind that makes you slow down and enjoy being there. Every dish felt like it was made to be shared, and every interaction left us smiling. It’s rare to find a place that combines great food with that true sense of hospitality.
We can’t wait to return, this will definitely be one of our regular stops in Kingston!

Great comfort food! The owner is the nicest guy you’ll ever meet. They make you feel like family when you’re there. The ambiance might be lacking, but it’s made up for with their delicious food & kindness. It’s not common to get the type of service received here. The rib sandwich, mac & cheese, and cornbread were top tier, like the best home cooking you could ask for. Prices are also extremely reasonable.

@goodeatnsoulfood Kingston, NY: Good Eat’n has replaced Eddys on Broadway after more than a 50yr run. Bringing a much needed soul food spot to midtown’s diverse offerings. The staff was more than friendly upon entering and super appreciative of the local community coming in to check them out. The entrees come with your choice of 2 sides, which you can pick from a variety of their options. Collard greens, mac and cheese, yams, corn bread, and potato salad to name a few. We shared the fried chicken wings ($21) and rib entrees ($23). Ribs were fall off the bone and chicken wings were hand breaded and crispy crunchy. Corn bread was very moist and Mercedes threw in an extra piece so we didn’t have to share. Portions were large and we had plenty of left overs. Customers have high expectations for Good Eat’n and they have some big shoes to fill. I hope to see an expanded menu in the future. Best luck to Joe and family.

Wow, wow, wow. I tried a new restaurant today, Good Eat’n and it was dellllliciooussss!!!! We started out with the fried fish and fried chicken wings. The spices and the flavor were right on. It was totally amazing. It came with a choice of several sides and we chose, macaroni and cheese and the potato salad. The mac and cheese was creamy and tasty but that potato salad OMG, just the way my mama makes it. I couldn’t get enough so then we ordered a side of rice and black eyed peas by then i was stuffed with the big portions they give you. What a great experience I had, the staff and the owner were so pleasant and accommodating. At the end of our meal he gave us a taste of his sweet potato cornbread. That was truly the icing on the cake. I can’t wait to go back. The whole experience was very satisfying.
