I had high expectations for this place since it was better rated on Yelp than the one down the road, (Frontier BBQ), and when I first pulled up it seemed like I had made the right choice. Cute old house with lots of hand painted signs, inside everything covered in soot, and a very sweet older white couple behind the counter – who were obviously the owners.

I ordered the two meat plate which was incredibly generous with proteins, and the only choice of sides were potato salad and baked beans.

They pulled a fresh rack of ribs, and a whole brisket to portion my meats, but the baked beans were pulled out fridge and warmed up in the microwave.

The barbecue sauce was added at the end and unfortunately it was probably close to 3/4 of a cup worth of sauce on my meat, so they were drowning in the stuff! Not much flavor in the sauce other than sweetness and we know how Texans feel about good Que not needing sauce!

The meat was nicely smoked to a beautiful tender consistency, but unfortunately I didn’t have much flavor to it. Same with the sides.

I should have listened to the African-American clerk at the gas station that recommended Frontier BBQ, but I couldn’t get a definitive answer about why it was better – maybe the local divide is along cultural references, rather than actual quality.

Small Town of Edna, Tx. Passing through on the way home. BBQ place that was recommended to me was closed. Saw this place. Little shack, no inside seating, cash only. Had a sausage sandwich. Was liked high. Tasted very good. Nothing fancy about the joint but a lot of folks stopped to get food to go. Give it a try.

The brisket and chicken are amazingly tender and juicy. You don’t need any sauce when you order here. The brisket had a perfect smoke ring and the burnt ends were perfect too. Tommy and his wife Sandy are super friendly folks. The sweet tea is on the right side of sweet, not syrupy at all. We sat outside at a comfortable picnic table in the shade. Wow, this BBQ we amazingly awesome. I was chatting with Tommy and you can tell right away he loves BBQ’ing.

Great little place. All meats smoked on site. Super friendly owners. Cash only, and have a couple of picnic tables outdoors to eat there. Otherwise, to go. They were sold out of sides except a very good rice jambalaya made with brown rice. Everything from scratch. Yum! I had chicken, hubby had brisket and sausage. All was very good.

One of the best BBQ places I have ever been. Top quality. CAN NOT RECOMMEND THEM ENOUGH.

Do yourself a favor and go eat here. It shows why BBQ is a Texas staple.

Francesco Contis recommendation of frontier is somewhat confusing as they are closing, could not compete with the quality of cowboys.

A keeper. Local hard-working business who appreciates smoked meats. I walked through the front door and was hit this thick warm smoke, that perfect sweet smell of sausage, chicken, and brisket. The folks are friendly, helpful, and attentive. These folks appreciate smoked meats and keep everything fresh and tasty. Don’t forget to get an order of beans — they bite in the nice way. The sausage was so yom yom, I had to buy an another pound for on the way.

It’s sad that just yards is some international corporate fast food join nearby, the one with frozen beef, the stale buns, the tasteless sides, the careless employees, the business that swallows the profits out of the community and some people think makes salt as flavor, but Cowboy BBQ has the real flavor. Big mistake. Skip McD and stay local.
