Just like another reviewer, I had started with Gordo’s on Clement St. when I moved to East Bay, the college Ave location was the tops.

It had been 20 years since I was in the Bay Area, and was so happy to nothing changed. Just delicious burritos.

I think Gordo’s secret is steaming the tortilla with the cheese. Get it all melt.

I hope it won’t be another 20 years; but if it is Gordo’s: please don’t change.

I came in. As I am ordering my burrito, with what I want and don’t want. I told the girl no sour cream. The cook had made it, and saw him put sour cream. The employee responded with, “you didn’t tell me, and we won’t make it again. . .”
I work in food and service. So I know how annoying it is when things are not communicated. So I made sure I did communicate well. She kept gas lighting me. Screw this place. Only because the manager doesn’t do ish.

I don’t leave bad reviews. The burritos here are terrible. Twice my steak was RAW and 75% zucchini…. Something I’ve never asked for in a burrito and something you don’t list on the menu. Even when saying I want no veggies I end up with a bundle of damp zucchini.

I’ve beengoing to Gordos since the late 80’s at their first location om Clement in SF. Always good, the grilled Quesadilla are the best with grilled chicken.

Consistently good, decent portions, and open late. A very small space, geared towards takeaways, but I suppose some people dine in. What it lacks in ambience is made up for by its reliability; almost 50 years!

Their tacos are my favorite, and I always get salsa, guacamole, and chips as a side. The food is never greasy and always full of flavor. My idea of good Mexican Food is when you can order a dish with meat and not bite into a piece of meat covered in fat. It’s rare to find a grab and go Mexican restaurant this good, and they have more than one location.

The people that work there are top notch! The line goes fast, and you can also order for pick up or delivery.

Gordo Taqueria es el major taqueria en el East Bay.

In response to some of the other reviews:

The pollo asado is the best I’ve ever had—perfectly cooked. If someone is afraid of, or confused by, blackness on their chicken, may I recommend Chipotle.

The moisture in the burritos is part of the excellent cooking. The beans are perfect, every time, and this means that they are perfectly moist; as is the salsa, the meat, and the rice. All perfect, every time. So, yes: you won’t get a super-dry burrito, and yes, this means that if you insist on taking it home, it may degrade slightly in structure (it will be perfect if eaten in-taqueria). My friends and I have been eating these burritos for over twenty years and have enjoyed many a one at home, just a little wetter. It’s worth it to have perfectly cooked ingredients.

Atmosphere. Let’s talk about atmosphere. This is one of the last not Starbucked, not third-wave-coffee-housed joints left in the Bay. If you’re uncomfortable with the small space or old-school tables and chairs, then, again, allow me to recommend Chipotle. Or Taco Bell. How about Taco Bell? They keep their revolving-door A.I. market image updated every few months. You shouldn’t be bothered by any authenticity or lasting tradition there.

Bottom line: Gordo Taqueria is a Bay original. So many old authentic Bay Area eateries have been bought out, disappeared, or made unrecognizable. Please let Bay Area natives enjoy this one in peace before we flip every last space into a Tesla showroom.

I am sorry to hear about poor customer service, if it’s true; and to hear that long-timers have experienced bad food service. I hope that everything is going Ok for the owners and staff during a weird, tough time in the Bay and the world. Customers do have a right to demand civil treatment and continued quality.

Really bland. I think I ordered the wrong thing. I got the shredded chicken plate and the meat was just plain boiled chicken, no flavor and very tough. They added a small amount of green sauce but it was so minimal, it hardly added anything. Beans also didn’t have any flavor. The rice was tasty and the chips were fresh and crispy, but disappointing overall.

Gordos has somewhat fallen off since the 2010s. The burritos got smaller and the carnitas is soggy compared to what it used to be. It’s still 4 stars, but it used to be the best value in Berkeley.
