Not only is this the best Italian ice & gelato place in the Twin Cities, or dare I say, the US, but it’s also a fabulous family-run small business.
The spring opening is a highly anticipated event for our family. I know it is for the community as well because each year, the lines get longer. October closing for winter is always sad, but it just builds up the hype for next season! We’re so thankful to have this Rita’s location in our neighborhood.
The owners are incredible. Julia is so nice and remembers us and what we like. They also have a gift for hiring the best staff! Through the years, they have had the most amazing people working behind the counter! Obviously, the treats are worth going for, but it’s the people that make you feel important and make us want to go back again and again! Shout out to veterans, Anita and Blake, who helped build the empire. Props to newcomers Tanner & Olivia this season for keeping it special & remembering the crazy off-menu recipes & pink straws!

Rita’s is the most amazing place to go to get your frozen treats. They have the best frozen custard and Italian Ice. What makes it even better is the staff. From the originals of Anita and Julia to the new comers of Tanner and Olivia the service is second to none. As a regular, they remember the nuances of my off the menu orders and even make some scrumptious suggestions. I can’t recommend this place enough and I wish I could give it more than 5 stars.

I was just at the Apple Valley/Lakeville Cobblestone location and ordered a sundae with chocolate cookies and cream ice cream, gummy bears, and mini M&Ms. I wasn’t aware there were two different types of cookies and cream ice cream, but I specifically pointed to the chocolate version while ordering. Since I didn’t realize there were two options, I asked if it could be switched.
The employee who had partly made my sundae laughed at me and said “nope,” chuckling as he handed me the wrong order. I don’t usually tip, but I did this time because the girl working was helpful. However, the male employee with blonde hair was extremely rude.
It’s one thing to politely explain that a switch couldn’t be made once the sundae was started, but to laugh and dismiss me while handing me the order felt disrespectful and unprofessional. Honestly, I wish I could take back my tip and my business and give it to a place that values their customers. I’ve been a loyal Rita’s customer for over 8 years, and I’ve been to this location and the Eagan location many times. I’ve never had an experience like this until now. Very disappointing…

Great mango flavored italian ice. The best deals are their take home containers. We enjoyed a small $6.49 container which was enough to serve 5. Individual servings can add up quickly. Clean and courteous staff.
