What a feast! I’m still full from last night’s dinner. Our friend suggested this spot for a meet-up. The food is fantastic. We asked for recommendations and were delighted with the three picks- chicken thigh, cheese stuffed meat, and the sausage. The sides were also solid. You can’t go wrong. As we were getting ready to go, I could smell the pork chop cooking for someone else. Next time we will try that. Friendly service and tasty food made fresh.

I ordered the side of potato salad with chicken thighs. It was fillet instead of bone in, which made me unhappy. The chicken thigh was seasoned and had grill marks to give it a visually appealing appearance. Every bite of the thigh was tasty, and the quantity size was appropriate. The potato salad is distinct; it tastes strongly of dill and has a smooth, mashed potato-like texture.
The biscuit cake, which included layers of vanilla custard, biscuit/cookie, and crushed nuts on top, was phenomenal. I like how smooth and creamy the custard was, and I’m glad it wasn’t overly sugary.

The place has a no-frills vibe when you enter but it should not stop you. We were greeted by the owner and asked him for recommendations and he gave us great advice.
We got meatballs and chicken thighs with potato and cabbage salads. The meat was so flavorful and delicious! It was juicy and perfectly cooked. The bread was also crusty on the outside and warm and soft on the inside. We are definitely coming back.

Well I was in the mood for eastern European cusine and was curious today for dinner for Bulgarian cusine. There were 2 other fancier restaurants that are Bulgarian in Des Plaines but was not ready to break the bank on a cuisine I don’t know I would like? I had seen this restaurant at a strip plaza and was surprised and apprehensive at first by the appearance of the restaurant front not looking so fancy or upscale to serve authentic Bulgarian cusine. After looking at both previous Yelp and Google reviews of it being Genuine plus the price I decided to give it a try. I was very happy I made this decision. The Tripe soup was delicious as an appetizer. Was made from scratch. It tasted similar to German borscht soup but no potatoes and pork chops. They did use tripe for the meat and they gave 2 optional condiments of Garlic and vinegar which was not too strong as well as pepper but wasn’t too spicy. The soup was savory, somewhat creamy and lightly tangy with the garlic and vinegar. It was also fast after I ordered. The manager who I didn’t ask his name gave recommendation on what else is traditional Bulgarian dishes such as Kufteta and Kebapcheta and they were delicious to start. It was served with a side salad cabbage and shopaka which was fresh delicious. They had another soup served cold called tarator but they were out since they get more customers locally during lunch time. I ended my meal with a traditional Bulgarian biscuit cake. Sweet, light and delicious. I wish I can describe the flavor of the sweet treat because it wasn’t like banana, hazelnut or coffee. It had the texture of banana cake or bread but not a hint of banana. Do give it a try. If you can look beyond the strip mall setting in Oakton ave in Des Plaines and give it a try you won’t regret which is why 4 stars out of 5. Otherwise great Bulgarian cusine. inexpensive, affordable, fast to serve and not too formal like the other 2 restaurants I read which would also Break the budget bank if you have that money to spend. Do start here for authentic Bulgarian cusine
