2nd is Chef Daniel Lindley’s continued homage to the American family meal. Inspired by Sunday dinners from his childhood, the menu features familiar yet refined expressions of traditional fare meant to foster a sense of community among guests. Lindley’s American restaurant concept involves all of the entrees being served with a communal bowl of mashed potatoes; no different than the family Sunday lunches that his Mother would prepare.

If you are wanting a fancy romantic dinner,with absolutely incredible food you have to come here. The atmosphere is perfect and the food is Só incredible my husband and I travel around the world and genuinely this food here was some of the best we’ve ever had.
Love the concept of enjoying American food without it being burgers and fries.
If I was visiting America for the first time I’d say this place can’t be missed.
And the service was absolutely amazing it’s rare to have actual kind serves these days and everyone there seemed happy to be there.
Parking is street parking.
The cut of steak I had that is common in south America was probably the best steak I’ve ever had and massive portion sizes I could even get through half. It melts in your mouth without being too greasy and has a good bite to it!
All of it was amazing and so fresh
The dessert was amazing the grasshopper was so fresh and perfectly sweet unlike many American treats that are too heavy on sugar these were light and delicious and tried to the flavor.
Their sorbet was the best texture and flavor it was as good as the ones I’ve had in Italy that I never thought I’d have again till I visited Italy.
Anyways I could go on and on but my husband and I loved this place and will absolutely visit and bring friends.

This is the 2nd time we visited and I’ve got to say it was Great! The dang sorbet were unbelievable, I ordered the NY Strip and it just melted in my mouth the blackeyed peas were unbelievable!! I’m really shocked that this restaurant hasn’t received some kind of national recognition. We are definitely coming back!! And I plan on spreading praise every chance I get!

Just finished dinner at 2nd. Without question, it was an EXCEPTIONAL experience! We started with a selection of appetizers. All were great, highlighted by Sequatchie Valley cheeses, tomato pie, and amazing duck wings. The entrees were seasonal including braises and a lamb Pot Roast. The cocktails were all excellent including a smoky riff on a Manhattan. We didn’t try the desserts, but everything looked wonderful. I want to highlight our server. She was knowledgeable, outgoing, and attentive, and certainly one of the best we’ve experienced in recent memory. I also want to commend the manager. We spent a little time with him choosing our wine. He is running an amazing enterprise. 2nd rivals or exceeds the best that Chattanooga offers from a restaurant perspective. This is a must visit and my new Chattanooga favorite!

The staff, ambiance, and food is top tier! Adam was a great server. The veggies did it for us. The turnips, mashed potatoes, and black-eye peas took us home. The rabbit, elk sausage, and chicken were prepared very well. The carrot cake was delicious!! Ohhhh the rolls…. a must!! Thank you for waking up my taste buds. Happy 50th to me!!!

We really enjoyed our meal here. Made reservations and were seated right away. The server was at our table in no time taking out drink order. My wife has wine and I had a really good old fashioned. Out app came out fast and was delicious. We are vegetarian and they three things to chose which is not bad honestly and it was all different things that most of the nicer restaurants in down to not offer. My wife had the dumplings and I had the stuffed cabbage. Both were delicious. Also you get a ton of food which is nice for an upscale restaurant. We will be coming back here many times.

2nd American was a great experience for Valentine’s Day dinner. The steak was very well prepared without a great herb butter finish and the portion sizes were very generous. The sausage cheddar biscuits were exceptional and the service was also great. I would definitely recommend.

We celebrated our anniversary at 2nd American; our first visit and now looking forward to returning. Such an enjoyable evening and meal; our visit was on a week night so the noise level was low, no wait for a table. The flow of the visit was wonderful; our server, Brooke, was attentive, professional and friendly. All of our choices appetizer, entrees and dessert (a seasonal delight!) were fresh, delicious food, perfectly cooked and packed with a nice balance of flavors. Bueno!

Excellent restaurant! Highly recommend!! Food and atmosphere was a fine dining, culinary experience! I loved it so much, I ate there consecutive evenings. The first night I had scallops on a bed of corn salsa with a side of eggplant. The second night I had grouper over mussels with a side of brussel sprouts. Every meal receives creamy, mashed potato comfort food. The craft cocktails are elegant and the staff calls you by name! I will return!!!!

Chattanooga’s food scene may be on the smaller side, but the city still has some great gems. Second American is a must-try — the service is consistently excellent, the drinks (both alcoholic and nonalcoholic) are delicious, and the food is fantastic.

Our first visit was Oct 24. We enjoyed a great meal and unique drinks. We sat at the bar and the service was impeccable! We ordered the NC trout and it was perfectly cooked. We salad the chopped salad. We will be back!
