The is the more casual restaurant from the owner of The Black Sheep.

Pros:
-The Decor is nice and hip
-The use of a garage is fun
-It is cool to have a barbecue place in Whitewater with everything made locally
-The Staff was generally nice (when you can get their attention)

Cons:
-The food is not very good
-All of the pork was mostly fat. Fat is good and important in barbecue, but my brisket was 80% fat, and it was a similar situation for the two guests I was with.
-It was really hard to get the attention of the staff
-The meat was bland
-The sauces were very blank and boring

I really like the idea of Causal Joe’s, but the food was just not on par with the decor. We didn’t eat most of our food because it was mostly fat. I would like to go again, but the food gives me no reason to go back.

Outstanding BBQ in a very unique building on the outskirts of town. Unless you live in the area, you’ll need GPS to find this place. The interior of the restaurant is larger than it looks and there is plenty of seating. I love it when old buildings are re-purposed and this one was once an auto repair shop. It’s a cool, funky, laidback atmosphere. It was exactly what we were looking for on our visit to Whitewater. The employee who took my order was cool and friendly too and was very knowledgeable about the food. My family and I had the brisket, pulled pork, chicken, and mac-n-cheese. Everything was delicious and we’ll be back again. They have a full bar and there was live music on the day we were there.

Best brisket and chopped pork I’ve ever had
I’ve eaten at the best bbq joints in Texas,Kansas city and Memphis and casual joes in Whitewater Wisconsin beats them in taste and quality and price.
Dude loves his craft and I’m very sad I’m leaving town soon

I had been here a couple of times before and guess that I’m just not much of a BBQ guy. I’ve even eaten at some of the southern chains that everyone raves about and could never quite figure out all the rage. I heard that Joe’s changed things and added “Smash Bowls” to the menu. Having eaten everything there is to eat in Whitewater, I decided to give them another try.

The setup is like Chipotle where you pick your meat and build from there. They still have the same BBQ stuff, but now offer the aforementioned bowls, salads and some other stuff. I had some sort of asian BBQ bowl with chicken served over a bed of mac and cheese. It was really quite good and filling for eight bucks.

I ordered the mac and meat smash bowl and received this.

Nowhere near the description and the brisket is extremely dry.

Casual Joe’s is excellent! We brought a large group of high school students to their establishment. The owner worked with me personally to get a large back room set up, and was able to accommodate for allergies. The two vegetarians in our group loved the options too! Overall we had excellent food and service. I cannot say enough things about the quality of the food and the staff. My students raves about all of the options and the quality of the food.

First time eating here yesterday. I ordered the pork platter and I was told by an employee that I wouldn’t need any sauce cause the meat had great flavor.

Well, to my surprise there was no flavor to the pork. It was dry, overcooked, zero flavor, and also the meat was served cold. Not room temperature, cold! The potato salad was decent, as well as the corn bread.

My fiancé ordered a pulled pork mashed potato bowl that was overly salted and also served cold.

Very unfortunate dining experience and we will not be returning.

I had high hopes for this place but it feel short. The service was good. The ribs were the best thing I had but very peppery and mediocre for a BBQ joint. The pulled pork was more minced than pulled, and way overcooked…it ended up in the trash. The classic coleslaw just plain sucked and followed the pulled pork to the trash. The cornbread had a good flavor. I think the corned bread would be better if it were cooked in a cake pan and cut into squares rather than cooking it in muffin cups. The place has potential but it isn’t there yet. I travel the country for a living, so I have the opportunity to eat at a lot places. This place would never survive in a location with more competition.
