What was, for me, an unprecedented public enthusiasm for Borino’s pizza quickly turned into deep regret after every subsequent experience.
The first red flag regarding customer service occurred when I called Borino’s specifically to offer praise and appreciation for a delivered stuffed pizza I had enjoyed. The employee who answered the phone and received my enthusiastic feedback responded with audible irritation. Her tone and clipped, dismissive “uh-huhs” made it clear that my call was an inconvenience. The subtext was unmistakable: customer engagement was of no interest to her.
That same initial delivery revealed a second red flag regarding integrity and basic professionalism. The pizza had been fully paid for at the time of ordering. Nevertheless, the young delivery person insisted that I come to the front door and demanded cash. When I explained what I had paid, how, and to whom, he asked again for money—this time explicitly for a tip. I gave him a five-dollar bill. He pursed his lips, sighed, and said, “Don’t you have more?”
“No,” I replied, beginning to close my door. He stood motionless in the doorway. I said, “Thank you. Good night.”
The second delivery of stuffed pizza was made by an older man. He, too, made it clear that he believed he was entitled to a larger tip.
The pizza itself was… meh.
The third—and final—order bore no resemblance to food at all. Receiving it was akin to being handed hazardous material.
The pizza reeked of sour garlic and spoiled fish, emitting a nauseating odor that permeated every room in my apartment, including rooms with closed doors.
The pizza tasted bitter and sour. The garlic knots in the crust had a vulgar fish flavor and smell. I spat out my first bite. I attempted another bite from a different slice and had to spit it out again. My dinner companion had eaten most of a single slice; shortly afterward, he reported feeling nauseous, unwell, and on the verge of vomiting.
This pizza was either contaminated during preparation by residue from other ingredients—or intentionally prepared to be inedible for reasons unknown.
Given the overwhelming odor and taste, there is no possibility that this condition went unnoticed during preparation, baking, or delivery. This was a willful disregard for food integrity and customer safety.
What a shame. That first pie was perfection or a fluke.
owner took over. They can never get my order right. Pizza sauce was so salty, couldn’t eat it. Original owner from 2017 was so much better.
