Great little coffee shop serving breakfast and lunch. My wife has a gluten allergy, and they were fantastic about accommodating her. We had the turkey club on gluten-free bread, easily a 10/10. The purple potato salad was delicious, and the lemon lilikoi poppy seed muffin was the perfect treat. Highly recommend!

Java Kai is a great stop for coffee and smoothies especially if you’re vegan. They have solid vegan options for drinks and everything we tried on that front was really good.
That said I do wish they had more vegan bakery and pastry options. On some days there were no vegan pastries available at all which was a little disappointing and made it feel hit or miss for us.
But the açaí bowl. Wow. Hands down the best açaí bowl I’ve ever had no exaggeration. Perfect texture amazing flavor and incredibly fresh. It’s honestly worth making the trip just for that alone.
If you’re vegan go for the coffee smoothies and absolutely do not skip the açaí bowl. Just don’t count on pastries being there every day and if they ever expand those options this place would be next level. ☕

Allow this to serve as my official love letter to Java Kai:
I love this place! Great coffee, great drinks, great food. My husband loves the breakfast burrito and I am always one to grab a bagel sandwich. So yummy! I typically get the surfer girl sandwich and tried the tropical haze smoothie. Good amount of seating, pastries, beans to go, and little gifts. We went twice on our week-long trip!

We came to this coffee shop at 6:00 AM, and even though their website mentioned that food service starts at 8:30, they kindly allowed us to order breakfast early. Thank you for your flexibility — it truly made our morning.
What impressed us the most was the speed and quality of the service. Our food was prepared in literally 5 minutes, and the coffee for all four of us was made just as fast. Everything arrived fresh, delicious, and perfectly done❤️

This is an outdoor seating establishment. Clean, good atmosphere, prices were average for being Hawaii (tourist stop), the food presented and tasted very good. The French toast with pineapple was fresh, the burrito was very full, the salsa was decent, not really hot but provided enough additional flavor to compliment the burrito, the coffee was Awesome ($7+ for Lrg was a bit high but it is Hawaii, this was also dark roast, not bitter or acidic). I would recommend this restaurant.

So glad to have given Java Kai a try ~ the kind of place you can’t wait to go back to the next morning! A relaxed and charming outdoor space. They under sold and over delivered! 🙂 And the fact that they had organic milk available and delicious loose leaf teas!! Matcha with honey was so smooth. Very warm service, well labeled gluten free and vegan options, (the gf lemon poppy seed muffin was so perfect in flavor and texture, and the gf lilikoi merengue was too), the protein breakfast was fresh and the order came out quick, even with a long line incoming they kept the drinks coming out fast.

Java Kai in Kōloa quickly became our go-to spot for breakfast while in Kauai! The breakfast veggie burrito is always packed with fresh ingredients and full of flavor, and the iced coffee is perfectly strong and refreshing—always hits the spot.
The staff is friendly and efficient, but be prepared for a long line, as this place is clearly popular with locals and visitors alike.
Seating is very limited, so it’s best to get there early if you want a spot to sit. Despite the wait and small seating area, the quality of the food and drinks makes it totally worth it. We couldn’t start our mornings anywhere else while on the island!

We actually ate at the other location too for carry out and had an amazing experience in both places. This one is definitely a better ambiance as it’s larger (they even had a DJ). The avocado toast and burrito were both delicious! We also tried a white mocha, macadamia nut latte and fresh OJ which were all great – the OJ was very much my fav! Such a cute place to grab brunch!

We ate at Java Kai Kōloa a few times during our stay in Poipu, and it quickly became a go-to spot. It’s always busy (a good sign!), but the service moved along pretty well.
For breakfast, we both enjoyed the Surfer Girl sandwich—a great start to the day. For lunch, I tried the pork sandwich with purple potato salad, while my husband went with the turkey club. Both were satisfying, though the highlight for Mike was the hibiscus tea. Unfortunately, it was sold out when we came back the next day, which says something about its popularity!
We also sampled the limeade, which was refreshing, though personally, I prefer the fresh juices from Kauai Juice Co. across the street.
Overall, Java Kai Kōloa is a solid choice for a quick bite in the area, with tasty sandwiches and a fun local vibe.
