To start, they served a lobster bisque that was lukewarm at best with raw lobster so I had to ask for a new one so it would be hot enough for the lobster to cook. The second one came out okay, but still not hot enough.
The other things were pretty good! But not enough to make up for the lukewarm soup.
The steak was near flavorless and I wish I had one from Whole Foods or Costco instead. Seriously.
On top of that, they have a mandatory 20% tip and then an extra 5% “fee” on top of that.
For two people, it was $370 after all of the fees and I actually was left feeling hungry and went to get some pizza after eating the meal.
Please don’t charge an extra 5% on top if you’re already charging a 20% gratuity, that is absurd!
The staff were very lovely and the atmosphere is really nice. It’s a shame. The food is so small and the price is far too expensive for what this is.
The food was the star and every dish was good, every dish was beautifully presented and made creative use of interesting and unique ingredients. No hyperbole, it was really great.
My personal favorite dishes were the tuna starter with duck liver, the stuffed squid, but especially the semifriddo with hazelnut and *phytoplankton*, what a crazy dessert and it was a standout highlight for everyone.
Thanks for making this occasion special for us!
The entire experience made for a perfect evening.
However, midway through our meal, we realized we were the only guests left in the restaurant. The staff began cleaning up around us, which gave us the impression that we were being rushed to leave. We completely understand that closing duties take time and that the staff wants to wrap up for the night, but given the restaurant’s open-kitchen concept, these activities were very noticeable and unfortunately disrupted the atmosphere.
Considering that we spent nearly $500 on this dinner, we expected the overall experience to feel more special and unhurried. While the food itself was outstanding, the timing and service approach left us disappointed, and it ended up overshadowing what should have been a memorable celebration.
She greeted with effervescence and warmth and it was clear we weren’t just here to eat some food we were part of the family and we had arrived for an experience.
I’m not a big fan of pomp and there was none. Zero. It was just an amazing meal made by a humble chef who clearly passionately loves what she is doing. She has an amazing staff and we were draped in the warmth and care of a lovely host who knows gastronomy.
I hope you’ll go and support this lovely little restaurant. It’s not inexpensive, but I give my personal promise to you that it will be worth it.
The sommelier was very friendly and spent a lot of time explaining the various wine pairings.
The sea urchin noodles in a uni lobster broth was amazing. By far my favorite fish. The beef was also delicious (I missed taking a photo) – perfectly medium rare.
Seriously one of the most unique dining experiences in SF.
The Wild completely blew me away. From the moment you walk in, the vibe is warm, earthy, and just cool in that understated San Francisco way. You can tell everything—from the wood and stone decor to the open hearth—is meant to make you feel like you’re sitting in someone’s hearth and having a homemade – but ultra sophisticated – meal.
The food? On another level.
The standout for me was the embered ice cream—yes, literally infused with embers from the fire. It’s smoky, creamy, slightly sweet, and totally unlike anything I’ve ever tasted. They serve it with tea-scented cake and a hint of tangerine, and somehow it just works. It’s not a gimmick—it’s actually delicious and thoughtful.
The rest of the menu follows that same theme: creative without being pretentious. Fire-roasted veggies, perfectly cooked proteins, and lots of ingredients that taste wild but comforting. Everything felt seasonal, balanced, and full of flavor.
The staff was warm and genuinely passionate about what they’re doing. It felt like they wanted you to have a great time. The chef explained every dish to us.
If you’re into food, atmosphere, or just want to try something truly different, The Wild is 100% worth it. Can’t wait to go back.
