Had a lovely time here! This small sushi shop is tucked in the hills and I’m so glad we found it. It’s unique, serving only purple rice and very creative rolls. There are ample vegan and vegetarian options. The service was really great and it’s clear that the food is made with a lot of care.

This was the BEST food I’ve had in years. I sat there and literally closed my eyes so I could savor the experience and feel ever morsel move through my body. We had the Richmond Roll and the Pink Lady. The vegetarian options are so delicious that I am going to go back over and over again just to try everything on the menu. I literally stopped my conversation because I was having such a spiritual experience with the food. I could not focus on anything other than enjoying it. The customer service was incredible. The staff was so friendly and kind. The presentation of the dishes is immaculate. I felt like I was getting a Michelin star quality meal.
Please go try this. It’s so good and so worth the money. I am in awe.

Delicious food. Amazing service. And great portions. We got the poke bowls; they were great!! We also got the 3 amigos special roll, green tea, miso soup, and salmon nigiri. All amazing!! Our server was nice, quick, and very attentive. Always making sure our tea was hot and we were well covered. A couple outdoor tables, and a good amount of indoor. Tons of take out action. They have cool purple rice as a signature. And the fish was very tasty! Highly recommend. There is a good sized parking lot next to the restaurant. Just be sure to park with caution; the neighboring Ace hardware brings a lot of turn over of large work trucks that have some challenges with the parking lot. This is a great spot!!

Excellent place in Berkeley to get sushi! They make their sushi with red rice which adds a nice fragrance to the rolls. Ingredients were fresh, the two rolls we tried were absolutely delicious. We devoured it so fast!
The place was clean, service was wonderful. Small restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating.
I would say the rolls are a bit on the pricey side, but I don’t mind paying for quality ingredients.
We ordered the baked crustacean party, it had fresh crab meat in the sushi roll with langoustines on top, warm, savory, and sweetness from the seafood came through. If you don’t mind spending the $30, I would highly recommend.
Will definitely be coming back whenever we’re in the area.

If you go to Sakana and don’t get the blue fin toro nigiri, you are doing yourself a disservice. This restaurant isn’t the largest, but the service is top tier. Excellent atmosphere, great for a dinner with friends or a date night. The miso soup is also very good. My favorite roll that I had was the Black Dragon. I highly recommend. 10/10

It was our first time here and we’re so glad we found this place. It’s a very cute, small sushi spot. We sat outside due to all the indoor seating being taken. The staff kept offering blankets which is so kind. The service was amazing, everyone was so helpful and friendly. The sushi was great! loved the fact that the rice is purple. Everything we ordered was super fresh and on point. Most people who come and go get their food to-go. The 9-11 roll was my fave.

Amazing large sushi and rolls made with purple rice and fine ingredients on the inside and outside. Succulent and tasty with incredible mixes of flavours. There are not many tables inside; we were lucky to get a table for five around 5:45pm.

Really good sushi!! I love the black dragon, lion king, and kyuri three rolls. I’m really glad we ordered the kyuri three because it was different than the other rolls and the cucumber was really refreshing. The fuyu yasumi roll is good too especially if you like the seared taste, but I preferred the other three. We also ordered wakame salad and salmon kama appetizers which were both good as well. I like the purple rice they use here. Service was super nice too.

Probably the best sushi of my life so far. Absolutely delicious. I loved the purple rice and the food presentation, so careful to detail. The taste of each niguiri and roll….. I’m sorry but you’d have to eat there to know. I can only say life is better after eating there. It looks like it’s a family business and everybody there is so nice and happy. Sakana is just outside SF, in a small neighborhood, and it was really nice to go there for our last meal in California. Congrats to the family for the wonderful sushi!
