Gray’s Mill is the kind of place that makes you want to slow down and stay awhile. The warm lighting, rustic wood beams, and stone walls create such an intimate, cozy atmosphere — perfect for a date night. Sitting at the bar with the soft glow from the pendant lights and shelves lined with whiskey felt incredibly romantic and relaxed at the same time.
The food and drinks were just as impressive as the setting — thoughtful, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. The service was attentive without being intrusive, which made the evening feel effortless and special.

An absolutely glowing 5-star experience at Gray’s Mill!
If you’re anywhere near Montgomery, IL, this historic 1800s mill-turned-restaurant, speakeasy, and event venue is a must-visit. The moment you walk in, the place wraps you in its cozy, inviting charm—rustic, warm, and full of character.
The menu offers plenty of tempting choices, and everything we tried delivered. The chopped salad was fresh and flavorful, and the fish and chips were perfectly crisp and satisfying.
Service was outstanding, thanks especially to Adam. If you’re there on Wednesday, Friday, or Saturday, ask for him. He offered great recommendations, shared fascinating bits of the mill’s history, and even hunted down old photos and write-ups to bring the past to life. His attention to detail and genuine hospitality made the experience exceptional.
Though the restaurant is on the smaller side, it’s wonderfully cozy, with outdoor seating available when the weather is nice. They also host live music in the warmer months, Tuesday trivia, murder mystery nights, and Sunday brunches—plenty of reasons to keep coming back.
Gray’s Mill blends history, atmosphere, and top-notch service into a memorable visit. Already excited to return!

I went to eat at Gray’s Mill with a group of seniors. We had good food and our waiter was great. But everyone got food at different times because we were a large group. I ordered the chicken avocado sandwich which came with fries. It was a good sandwich and the chicken was moist not dry. Three people tried the cod fish which was good. Two of them ordered the quesadilla plate. It was a nice lunch.

So glad we found this place. Great outdoor areas, and the food was fantastic! Drinks were excellent as well. Service was quick and courteous and we were well taken care of. We will certainly be returning and trying some other items off the menu in the near future. Adults and kids all left full and happy. 🙂

The food was delicious and the drinks were amazing. The wonderful gentleman was alone and his service was amazing and very tentative with us a group of 13 , we will be back. Thank you everything was great!

The smoked old fashioned was delicious. The place is small, a cute hidden gem. I had the chicken rice soup and it was bland. I also had the pork roast with beans and potato salad but the pork was pretty greasy. I’ll come back for the drinks and try something new to eat.

Went to Grey’s Mill for dinner .. had the fat boy and cream of chicken and wild rice. Sat outdoors in the back. Very relaxed ambience and decor. Food was good and our waitress very polite and friendly. Due to short staffing and being the only waitress , she still took care of us. Will definitely come back.

We attended the “summer wine tasting” at Gray’s Mill. The food was delicious, the wine paired beautifully. Sadly, 95% of the other guests were so loud you couldn’t hear the rep from the vineyard. What we expected to be an evening learning about wine pairings turned out to be a cacophony of middle-aged people who needed an excuse to drink and yap VERY loudly. While the event is great in theory, someone needs to tell the guests where they can find their manners.

Had a great dinner experience this past Saturday evening and always a top notch experience. Our server, Isaiah was superb and very customer oriented. His follow up skills and eagerness to provide us with great service was a priority. He did just that! Food and view were great; did love mini dumpling appetizer. 2nd time here and we will be back.
