Magnolia Point, located in Birmingham’s southside neighborhood just 2 blocks from 5 Points South, is a delicious homage to favorite Gulf shore hangouts. The Gulf seafood-forward menu features fresh fish, shrimp, and crab claws prepared in various styles from casual fried share plates to blackend and grilled entrees. Delicious New Orleans style po boys served on Leidenheimer French bread are features. There are plenty of choices for landlubbers as well with delicious entree salads, the fat and juicy BHAM burger, and arguably Birmingham’s best chicken wings. We stopped in for lunch and everything came out fresh and hot, which is always a good start. The fried oysters were the standout for me, followed closely by the shrimp and grouper. My salad was surprisingly delightful too. We ordered appetizers (white sauce lemon pepper wings and jalapeño hush puppies), and they were so good I forgot to take pictures.
The drinks were decent but not memorable either. They did serve my sangria over ice, so I spent a little time fishing cubes out like I was on a tiny rescue mission.
Would I go back? Sure, if I’m craving seafood and already on that side of town. I wouldn’t necessarily make a special trip, but it’s a solid option when the seafood craving hits.

Seafood is just gonna be high but if you have you pay for it, let it be good! I had the seafood combo platter with blackened gulf fish, fried shrimp & catfish with macaroni and collards. Everything was fresh and seasoned! My macaroni noodles were a tad bit overcooked as it was mushy but it was cheesy definitely made with real cheese. The hushpuppies looked burnt but they weren’t. I saw the jalapeños but it wasnt spicy-I wanted spice but there were still good. If I would have closed my eyes I would have thought I was in Key West that Key Lime Pie was everything it was supposed to be. I was slightly disappointed in my drink it was made with Reposado I just didn’t taste it and Im a lightweight. They have ½ price wine on Wednesdays & ½ price Martinis on Thursdays Ill be back soon especially to sit outside when it warms up the outdoor area is lovely.

Today’s was our first Visit at Magnolia Point and let me tell you .. From the time we walked in until the time we walked out it was truly one of the best “late lunches ” we’ve had in a very long time .
We were greeted at the door by such a very sweet young man named Manning, who set us at our booth and had such a lovely personably vibe . He was very attentive , and we told him it was our first time there and he was so nice about giving us time to look over their fabulous menu. Me being the social one in my marriage quickly made banter with the bartender Gabriel. I love a well stocked bar , not only for the great options, but for the diffent bartending techniques that every individual bartender has . And Gabriel , hands down had it covered behind that bar. Great mixed drinks , great food , good conversation, and above all EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE… Magnolia Point & Staff , we will definitely be returning customers. You all have put faith back into what great customer service really is . Thank you for a great lunch experience

YALL I just found probably my new favorite spot last night!!
My dad and I went after work and we were both so hungry. For appetizers we got the smoked tuna dip (I get that everywhere that offers it) and it was fresh and didn’t have too much smoke flavor it was just right. We also got the jalapeño hush puppies and that remoulade sauce with them was chefs kiss!
For entrees, dad got the shrimp and grits. He let me try them and they were delicious. The shrimp were perfectly cooked.
I had the seafood platter with gulf fish (grouper) and side of cheese grits and side salad. I got my fish blackened and it was delicious! Everything came out hot. There’s this little thing you can add called like rock shrimp butter or something and I got some of that and put it on top of my fish
Now let’s talk about pie. I don’t even like coconut but I had a bite of dad’s coconut pie and it’s definitely homemade. But the key lime pie was absolutely fantastic! Our server Gabe (or maybe Gage?) was so polite and answered all of my questions.

This was our first time and was a great experience. The staff was so friendly and knowledgeable. Chef Mike made sure our first time visiting his restaurant was a good one. He explained the menu and made several recommendations. All of the food we tried was delicious. The Shrimp and grits were the best we have ever eaten. The Key Lime pie was excellent and made from scratch. We definitely will be coming back.

This is a really cool spot. Outdoor seating is spacious and welcoming with a great atmosphere, the inside has great decor and the music is really good that they play overhead. The foot was great for me and my girlfriend, pictured below I got the shrimp and grits and she got the blackened chicken. Beer selection was great and we got a plate of their hush puppies on the house which was nice of them. One of my family members has an allergy to most meats, so he opted for a salad. The first salad he requested was rejected due to them not having one of the components of the salad in stock at the moment, weird to not specify which component and work with the customer to still get that salad. The other one he opted for came quite drenched in vinaigrette, so much so he had to pour some out into a bowl to continue with his salad. We also ordered some food to go and again they were missing one component of it and redirected us to order something else, I insisted that we’re okay with it missing one part of it as long as that’s allowed. The server was a nice guy but had an air of cluelessness about him on stuff like that, a new restaurant so I don’t blame them for still trying to figure things out. We were never told and it doesn’t say on the menu no alterations, so for us to be immediately redirected to ordering something else as opposed to being worked with on the menu was a little frustrating. If you have any vegetarian or vegan friends, or in my case someone with an allergy, this spot definitely excels at making good food outside of their salads and don’t bring anyone picky because it’s weirdly like pulling teeth to get something worked out. Otherwise, it was a good spot. Will be back for drinks again on a day with nice weather, but will potentially dodge the headaches that came with ordering food. That may go away with time once this restaurant settles, will update review if they get better with that.

Best shrimp meals ever. Peel and eat is awesome and salad is delicious. Very awesome staff that are very attentive and professional Really cool outside area that looks perfect for sports events. Wish they could figure out TVs for viewing live sports. Couldn’t watch MLB wild card series ??This is awesome place for great food.
