Professor Pizza | Chicago’s Award Winning Pizza

Our Reviews. What a pie. The sign outside steered me away but finally got to try this place and it didn’t disappoint. One of the better slices around Old Town.

Stumbled upon Professor Pizza on Google after their 2 day grand opening in West Town. We had the Grandma’s pizza and wings. Definitely the real deal, crust was phenomenal, sauce was amazing to top it off. The wings had a perfect touch of Parmesan in the buffalo sauce. A lot of 90’s nostalgia which made the establishment that much better. A lot of heart and soul poured into the place with family pictures and photographic memories with close friends. Hope you become a massive staple here Professor Pizza. 5/5

Garlic knots came out cold and hard like they had been sitting under a heat lamp for hours.
Pizza was just warm, cheese was not hot at all. Did not taste fresh at all.
Service was good, but I will not return as the food was very poor despite looking like it would taste good.

Tried Professor pizza a couple of years ago when they were serving out of a kitchen but never left a review. From what I vividly recall we loved the pizza and tried more than one kind. The service was out of this world and they made our experience memorable. So much so it became my favorite muse. Happy to see the growth!

Mixed feelings..this pizza could be phenomenal but missed the mark.

First off, I visited on an off day when they suddenly got slammed. Had to wait 20mins past my order pickup time. Looks like this was a new location being expanded so I’m guessing they are getting their act together. Guys were very nice and apologized. Understandable. Stuff happens.

My issues were with the pizza itself, the outer crust was just sooo burnt, dry, and extremely hard my jaw started hurting after a few end pieces, and I love the ends . Also I could count on both hands the number of olives that were added. I have had their pizza before and this was disappointing, specially when you have to wait so long and pay close to 30$. Lots of other great tavern pizza options popping up that are way better than this.

Excellent pizza and service and was open on Monday! Got the 12 inch supreme on Grandma’s Crust. Almost ate it all. Fantastic food! Conveniently located within walking distance of Lincoln hotel.

We had an amazing experience at Professor Pizza on the Tetto rooftop in West Loop. We went on a Thursday evening and it was full of people having a great time. The music was excellent, the decor is trendy, and the views of the city are outstanding. Great place to bring friends from out of town or to have a date.

And don’t even get me started on the food! I’ve been following Professor Pizza for a while now and this was my first time trying his pizza. It definitely lived up to the hype!

You can get any of the pizza types on one of three crusts: cracker-thin, grandma style, and NY style. We got the Supreme pizza NY style and the Deluxe Pepperoni grandma style, and both were outstanding. The NY style pizza is huge – the slices are a little floppy, but the crust is perfectly crispy. The grandma style pie was a major hit. A delicious, crispy, thicker crust that’s still somehow light and airy. They both had a wonderfully sweet tomato sauce, and they were loaded with tons of wonderful toppings – the freshness of all the ingredients was evident.

This spot is a great addition to West Loop and one of my new favorite spots in the city!

This place is just phenomenal pizza hands down!!! Beautiful ambience on the rooftop, really cool stage space for a DJ on the weekends. The art and the bar are gorgeous.

My friends wanted to try the thinnest pizza, and in all honesty I would not have had they have not . Blown away Chicago tavern, style pizza anywhere. We got pepperoni. After that we wanted to try grandmas style/Detroit, we also got it in pepperoni, we didn’t think it was possible, but we liked it even more than the first. The ricotta cheese dollop , I’m telling ya cuz gotta try this pizza! Cannot wait to go back to try others than pepperoni as well as the medium crust.

Drinks were fun staff was friendly, and a manager was walking around, making sure everything was to our liking.

Must try

If I could give zero stars I would. We were there on Saturday waited forever for our second pizza, the first one came out way ahead of it. By the time we got it, it was cold. The waitress charged us for four garlic knots when we only got two and for three onion rings when we only got one. When the check came, there was no itemized receipt, I had to ask for it. I believe she did it on purpose to purposely overcharge us. We did call the next day and the restaurant refunded us the difference so at least management took care of it. And how do you serve a pizza after waiting over an hour and it’s cold? There are so many good pizza places in Chicago, skip this one!

Professor Pizza was insanely delicious! We had the New York style pizza and it was perfect! Toppings seem fresh and high quality, sauce and crust had nice flavor. Highly recommend!

Review is focused on take away. Their “nyc-style” slices.

Crust – 5
Sauce – 3
Cheese – 2
Stability – 1

Found the slice to be extremely thin and greasy. Not possible to eat this like I would in New York without making a total mess, glad I waited until I got home. Sauce was mediocre and had a few large onions which was confusing. Overall sauce was quite bland.

Cheese was sparse so providing a review on its quality was difficult.

Definitely one of the better crusts for a Mac-style slice in Chicago.

Overall I don’t think this place would survive in nyc on their nyc-style pizza. Perhaps I’ll try the grandma next time if I decide to give it a try again, otherwise for over $5 a slice, just not worth it.
