We’ve been to this coffee shop multiple times and we every time leave impressed.
The coffee, treats, everything tastes delicious. We ended up with the Apricot Ginger scone and a Chocolate Ganache cake and mmhmmmm. Reminded me of why I run
It was raining so we didn’t sit outside or take pictures but this “cafe” or “bakery” is always busy…and rightfully so.
In summary, I recommend you try this spot…. especially when Team England is around
Recently, they heavily rearranged the interior layout, and it is now frequently overcrowded to an uncomfortable degree. The line seems to start in a different place everyday. Sometimes the front door works, but at other times it is locked because the entry is used for seating. In the afternoons and evenings, there are essentially “hosts” who stand at the line and ask you if you’re dining in or taking something to go. I understand they want to manage their flow of customers efficiently, but it just adds to the chaos and confusion. They often look like customers, it’s often too loud to hear what they’re asking you, and the placement is so strange; What establishment places the host at the line to the counter? Shouldn’t they be at the entrance? Oh—but of course not the real entrance, as that one is currently occupied by a ramshackle table. This used to feel like a peaceful small-town lunch spot by the pond. Now it feels like a tourism hub in the worst possible way.
The food is still good, but it’s definitely gone down in quality a bit as well—I imagine it’s a result of trying to keep up with their constant business. The menus have also become incredibly convoluted, and their pastries are out of stock far more often than they once were.
I still go here occasionally because I enjoyed it so much for years, but each and every time without fail I’m disappointed further and further. I just had to walk out and write this review because the inside of that place was so hectic.
I’m glad the store is seeing so much success, but it’s tragic to me and everyone I know. It was truly perfect before. I don’t know why they ruined it.
I ordered the avocado toast. 7-8/10. I loved the fresh dill and the bread was delicious. However, I felt like the tomatoes maybe needed to be quartered instead of halved, because they were a little too big and kept falling off.
The avocado spread doesn’t look like it’s made in house—if it is, it looks like Holy Guacamole or something similar. I’d rather have fresh avocado just smashed into the bread. I also think the entree could have benefitted from some thin sliced red onion on top, and maybe some balsamic?
There’s definitely potential here, especially in such a beautiful neighborhood. But I feel like if I’m going to spend $10+ on an avocado toast, the avocado at least should look a little more fresh.
However, they have great coffee and the atmosphere is great! I came with my husband and baby. It was nice to be able to walk around the park and get a coffee after!
