Server Stephanie was top-notch: friendly, knowledgeable, and spot-on with recommendations. We started with a dozen oysters and the Kombu Cured Hamachi – both fresh and divine. Our Rib eyes were cooked to perfect MR, paired with incredible sides: crispy Brussels sprouts with pork belly, wild mushrooms with braised leeks, and potato purée with roasted garlic and pecorino.
Dessert was the B.B.C. showstopper: brown butter cookie with salted caramel ice cream and toffee popcorn. Perfect ending to an unforgettable meal.
Highly recommend it for date night, special occasion or just because.
Our servers were Hailie and Khloey and they were both so above and beyond. Hailie was our primary server and she not only was a great server, but made us feel so welcomed and such a wonderful personality. Thank you both!!!
I will absolutely be back! Ocean 44 used to be my go to… but that may have changed after this experience!
Steaks were well seasoned and cooked. My ONLY note is that the cacio e Pepe side dish was unfortunately extremely bland. I was very excited about it and I am easy to please, but I would not recommend.
They also gave us a free dessert for our anniversary which was very nice. It was the Dubai chocolate parfait and I can’t begin to express how good it was. Great experience!
The escargot was a standout dish. Super rich, buttery, and perfectly seasoned without feeling too heavy. Easily one of those dishes you keep thinking about after the meal. The dry-aged prime rib was just as impressive. Tender, flavorful, and cooked exactly right with that deep, beefy flavor you hope for from a dry-aged cut.
Service was on point without being over the top, and everything felt well paced. Whether it’s a special occasion or just a great steak night, Cleaverman is absolutely worth a visit. I’ll definitely be back.
We started with some drinks, I ordered a lemon drop, yes I’m boring but they made the drink the way I love them, sweet but sour. You can taste the fresh lemon juice! Yum! Then we ordered the beef tartare, it was sooo good! The crunchy bread with course salt really made the tartare even better. The oysters were super fresh, I could have eaten 100 of them
I ordered the 8oz wagyu strip loin, medium-rare. Cooked to absolute perfection! The finishing salt really enhanced the flavor, no other seasonings or sauces needed. The meat was so flavorful and tender, I could eat that every day. Both my steak and my husband’s steak, ribeye, had this char that made us do a food moan, if you know, you know. The sides were also great! The brussels were crispy, chewy, salty and sweet…all the things haha the yorkshire pudding was cheesey and delicious too! We ended with dessert, Dubai chocolate parfait and some orange cake that I forgot the name of (sorry). The desserts were wonderful!
I will say, this place is pricey but it was worth it. The food is spectacular and unforgettable. The service is top notch. The ambiance is really cool. The only critique I would give….the music was a bit loud, but they played really good music lol so take it with a grain of “finishing salt”
In the words of The Terminator “I WILL BE BACK”
Cleaver Man is one of the most beautiful new additions to downtown Phoenix. The space is stunning, and the design team absolutely nailed the ambiance. It feels high-end the moment you walk in, and the setting alone makes you want to root for this place.
Unfortunately, the food did not come close to matching the environment. At a steakhouse, the steak should be the holy grail the star of the show, and instead it was bland and not well-cooked. That is a tough sentence to write about the supposed star of the menu. The sides were the highlight of the night, and one of their bread pudding options was easily the table favorite.
Service added another layer of disappointment. Our server was kind and clearly trying, but multiple items never arrived, drinks were forgotten more than once, and people at our table had to repeatedly ask just to receive what they ordered. Waiting fifteen to twenty minutes between check-ins with a party of eight in a room that was not even busy is not something you expect from a restaurant positioned at this level. Opening night explains some things, but not the basics.
I do want to acknowledge two standout team members. Steven, one of the managers, was friendly and helpful, and went out of his way to address a seating issue that caused a delay. He took ownership, found a solution, and made sure our group ended up with a great table. The sommelier, Nisa, was exceptional. Incredibly knowledgeable, professional, and by far one of the most impressive sommeliers we have ever experienced. These two were the bright spots of the evening.
The upside is that Cleaver Man has every advantage to succeed. The atmosphere is exceptional, the concept is appealing, and the kitchen showed flashes of talent with the right dishes. If the team tightens up service and makes the steaks worthy of the space, this place could truly become a standout. Right now, it is a stunning restaurant that has not yet earned the experience its design promises.
Our waitress, Jordan, was so kind and helpful! Her expertise made our first experience seamlessly.
We also appreciate the manager, Stephen, for his kind words and attentiveness. He checked on us multiple times throughout the night making us feel so welcomed. The surprise dessert was a nice gesture as well!
We had the half seafood tower, duck fries, wedge salad, lamp chops, two cocktails, and 18 oz steak. Everything was prepared to PERFECTION!!! The portions and flavor of the food made us feel it was well worth the price (they really could charge more due to the high quality )!
Thank you so much for an amazing night. We look forward to visiting again!
