What a shame! Detoured off my trip to have some expected real good bbq based on the reviews. Place was a big open not very inviting restaurant that looked more like a big takeout joint than a restaurant. You order at counter- you do not see any remnant of food. Prices ok for what it is. Food brought to your table within minutes. Biscuit was soft but very dry and not very tasty. Mashed potatoes were fine- small portion, Cole slaw not very good. And corn muffin very disappointing. Oh well, live and learn, will make up for this on my next trip down south

Food was good, we had a group of 3. We enjoyed the atmosphere, the cashier was nice, very helpful with the ordering process and suggestions, they were good about clearing off our table of trays once done with food. Very clean. Love the new location much better, plenty of space, much bigger, cafeteria style. Brisket and ribs were good, than dipped in the different sauces it was bomb. I love corn bread and that cornbread muffin was awesome. Mac & cheese is usually off the chain but this time around it was okay probably cause we came in close to closing time, the mash potatoes were great, wasn’t crazy about the coleslaw but again it was probably because it was close to closing. Well worth the price, you get a healthy amount of food, you wont leave hungry and will actually leave with left overs.. lol We will most definitely return.

Big Ed’s BBQ was all that! EVERYTHING WAS EXCELLENT! We had the pull pork sammich, baby bake ribs, bake beans, macaroni cheese, coleslaw, and a corn bread muffin! The show stopper for me was the bake beans cooked with ham, pork and brisket! Hands down this is the best BBQ I have had! If you are ever in Waukegan, IL Big Ed’s is a must try!

This is no bs barbeque! You walk in and walk to the counter, grab a drink and order food. They give you a number if you have a special order otherwise everything is cut up and plated right in front of you. It can’t get much better and simpler than that! I’ve been grilling and smoking for a long time and I’ve ate at many smoke shacks this definitely competes with the best of them. I had brisket, burnt ends, mac and cheese, and yams. Honestly everything was pretty solid. The burnt ends definitely dominated the plate but the yams were my absolute favorite. The atmosphere is so so depending on what you are looking for. Lots of space and a bunch of little tvs. It works great for big groups or even family dinner. I personally think they could add one really nice big projector and I’d show up for all the football games. Otherwise everything about this place is top notch, service is great and prices are fair.

My bae decided to treat my sons to a bbq dinner and since hearing all the good things about the brisket we figured we’d try it out. Let me start off by saying everyone was very kind. And after placing our order I decided to have a drink in the bar area. Very nice establishment and I just knew the food would be good. The order totaled about $185.00 give or take. 2 rib dinners full slabs and a brisket dinner made it to my home. My sons ages 10&11 refused to eat the ribs I don’t eat pork so I found this strange until I called bae to ask about his food and he said he couldn’t eat it. The ribs were horrible in his words and my sons said the same thing. Now for this brisket I just couldn’t believe this place is charging the amount of money they are and this meat not only was dry. The brisket lacked any flavor and the sauces included I guess are supposed to give the missing seasoning. We elected not to call complaining because we figured an L is and L so here I am 2 weeks later giving my honest review. Tried it again only ordering the brisket and we were not wrong the food was bad.

Does Michelin give stars for BBQ? If so this place is 5 star Michelin rated. Truly off the scale in every way. The staff is so polite and kind, the food is other worldly and the prices are low for what you get. Come hungry.

I picked this restaurant because it looked good online was on my way to Genesee Theater. The bar was busy at 6pm on a Saturday evening and Rich said hello and served me a frosty beer while I perused the menu and glanced at the food others were having.
I ordered burnt ends and briquet, sold out! Asked for tips, sold out! Asked for ribs, sold out!
C’mon kitchen manager, this was during the dinner rush on a weekend and I have to ask you WHERE’S THE BEEF??
I asked for and received literally the LAST pulled pork meal in the joint. The pulled pork dinner with “Lawd Ham Mercy” Beans and Cole Slaw on the side did not disappoint and I left to enjoy my show with a full belly, thank you.
