This restaurant has a great atmosphere. The bar dates back to the 1800’s. The service was good. As an appetizer we had Onion Rings. Cooked to perfection. Likely the best onion rings I have ever had. After that things went downhill. Two of us had Pork Tenderloin. One grilled one fried. The taste on them was a little off. Another of our party had Macaroni and Cheese as a side. It was cold. The other person had liver and onions. She was not overly thrilled with those.
I did chat with some folks before we ordered. They had steak that they were very happy with.

Absolutely the best Onion rings and sauce.
You have to have it.
It’s what they are famous for but seriously. Do try it. Ask for a half a portion if you’re just in 2 people because their portions are generous.
We also had the cheese sticks. we got a half of Onion and half cheese. so yummy.
I also love the drinks.
Everything was great and the bartenders were great.

We came into town on a road trip and had a great late lunch here. I loved the history! I do not normally like onion rings, but these were def the best I’ve ever had! Good chicken Caesar salad too! Yum!

Driving down highway 55, I had some extra time to kill so I decided to take a short detour into St. Genevieve for lunch. This was SO worth it, and if you have any free time, I recommend going. Not only is the town full of rich history and very welcoming, but the Anvil Saloon is definitely a safe and great choice for food. The atmosphere was great, it wasn’t loud, and the staff were quick and kind. The food came out fairly quickly, and was amazing. I just had the bacon cheeseburger with fries, but it hit the spot perfectly. I will plan to be back in the future, as I want to explore more of the town and see all that it has to offer, and will definitely eat here again.

We stopped in on a busy fall Saturday, and we were seated right away. Our server was attentive with drinks and refills throughout lunch. The onion rings lived up to their reputation – delicious! I had French Onion soup which had a richly flavored broth and yummy melted cheese. My husband and sons all enjoyed their meals – breaded pork tenderloin sandwich, fried catfish, and breaded chicken sandwich. Rave reviews all around. I’m glad we chose The Anvil!

Stopped by for a late lunch. Portion sizes were very large. Tried the ravioli, onion rings, chicken tenders, and grilled cheese all were very good. Has an old bar vibe completely with spittoon!

One of the best restaurants around. The building is one of the oldest west of the Mississippi. The food is amazing and the wait staff is a well. Come hungry, the servings are enough for 2. They are rightfully famous for their home made onion rings, a must try any visit.
Serving veterans free breakfast the first Sunday of each month. Look at the size of a single plate, so much hubby and i shared and ordered German potatoes and toast. We even ordered dessert to go. YUMMY!
Check out their menus for Ste Genevieve Jour de Fete. This is THE PLACE TO EAT.

Small town bar and grill. Food was good, service was good. The onion rings were perfectly breaded and fried golden. I had the Gizards with okra and applesauce for dinner. The draft beer is so cold there was a thin layer of ice on the top when it arrived at the table. This place is definitely worth a stop if you are in the St Gen area

Wow, what a wonderful place in Ste. Genevieve. When you visit try them. I grew up in St. Louis County, though, no longer live in the area and always “drove by”… this time, we visited and will return.
It is a nice experience.
The onion rings are a must try.

Our bartender did a great job making our drinks. He gave a great history lesson about the building and town. The burgers had a fresh taste and onion rings are homemade. Loved it!
