The best sausage egg & cheese EVER! I used TikTok to find this gem. Seems very family orientated , a lot of regulars. I observed the menu seems fair . I would love to come back to try some other stuff. I placed my order to go, only because I was the only person of color. I have been to Monteiro’s a few times and this last visit was very disappointing… The diner was not very busy a few tables with customers….the owner standing at the kitchen window greeted us warmly as we arrived… We sat ourselves at a booth and waited for the server to approach… She watched us walk in and seat ourselves and let us sit for ten minutes without approaching… Two more customers walked in behind us sat themselves and she went right over with no issue and took their order right away… Put their order in at the window and then slowly shuffle over to our table with no greeting… Brashly asked us what we wanted to drink and if we knew what we wanted to eat right from the jump… My husband ordered a regular coffee and a chocolate milk… She turned to me and said what do you want… I asked for a cup of decaf and she replied “decaf what?” As if there were more options for decaffeinated beverages… I responded a cup of decaf coffee please and thank you… she turned snidely and walked away… Two minutes later brought out our drinks and again said with a sneer do you know what you want?…. I ordered an omelet w/ home fries and white toast, my hubby ordered a short stack of pancakes… She put our order in and seven minutes later brought out our order… put them on the table asked if we wanted ketchup or hot sauce we politely declined both stating no thank you she then puts the check on the table and walks away never returning to check on our meal satisfaction or if we needed refills. I cut into the omelet just to find soup inside… Mushroom and cheese omelettes normally aren’t as runny as this was… kept cutting into it just to see it flop open only for it to be half cooked inside… I ate the toast and what little home fries I received were burnt to a crisp like it was from the grease trap and not fresh at all… I have never had an issue with their food prior to these last two visits but the more I go the less I feel welcomed. This will be our last trip to this particular diner.. maybe I would be better off ordering things to go and picking them up…. unfortunately I will not go back to an establishment where I don’t feel welcome …let alone to tip someone less than deserving of her title as a server…. Saddest part is that she could have been a bit kinder forced a smiled and at minimum come by to see if we were enjoying our meal that again was less than satisfactory…But NO!! Rushed out the order to our table… Just to be rushed out the door with a check before we even took our first bite. My husband, I felt was being generous for even tipping her what he did… I would’ve left her a nice tip on the back of the receipt stating “gratuity is earned not promised smile be kind & check on your customers that is my tip for you in 2026.”

One of the last few family owned & operated breakfast/lunch restaurants in the area!! Not only are they the breakfast spot but their lunches are incredible!! They actually cook fresh turkey daily for their turkey sandwiches & chef salads!! Soooo delish!! They cater to their clients like 5 star restaurant while you still feel the comfort of home!! Dine in or carry out are always fresh & delicious! We even hosted an evening event there & food was outstanding.

The Town Plot Neighborhood Association in Waterbury had their annual Christmas party the other night at Monteiro’s. A breakfast-and-lunch only restaurant, they do open at night for events since they also provide catering services. The space was known to locals as “Chick’s” diner before the Monteiro’s owned and operated it for around twenty years. The first room has counter service and a few tables, the second room has booths and tables.
The hot food served to guests for the party was pasta in red sauce, meatballs, roasted chicken and potatoes. There was also a large green salad and Italian bread slices. Dessert was a Christmas sheet cake and local Italian bakery cookies. Coffee and tea was served for hot beverages.
The meatballs were creamy in texture and had a delicate pleasing flavor. Really good. It’s hard to find a meatball that is anything below excellent in Waterbury, as they all have their subtle differences. The pasta was perfectly cooked in doneness. The chicken was moist and seasoned with a nice crisp to the skin. The salad had many ingredients and a clean balanced dressing. The cake was better than most sheet cakes, and the local cookies were what everyone wants from an Italian bakery.
It’s a friendly environment and menu item prices are a good value for patrons.

I have NO idea why it took so long to find this little gem! Pancakes are huge! The menu is simple diner food. Which is why they’ve been in business for so many years. It’s done well! Definitely coming back and recommend you try this hidden gem.
Definitely not a greasy spoon diner. All the dishes coming out of the kitchen looked great. Can’t wait to try more.
Prices are great for what you get.

On August 15, 2025 their was a group of twelve of us who had breakfast at Monteiros Restaurant, and food was delicious, and Pam our server did an AMAZING job, and I think she deserves a total of 5 stars for her service.
