Lisa was the best part of this blast from the past. The food from the bar was subpar, the fried chicken being the best thing up there. Their hot fudge cake was just dry and the fudge was overpowering. There was a white substance on some plates at the buffet that I sat off to the side and a worker put them back on the stack. I advised why they were off to the side and she said “it’s just the fuzzy from the towels that we dry them with” and proceeded to put them BACK on the stack after I walked away! This is very concerning as I had touched all 3 of those plates AND the white substance was most definitely NOT fuzz!

Went here today, Nov 27, for Thanksgiving dinner. Our server was wonderful. Food was fresh and hot. Turkey, ham, fried chicken and fish. Veggies and peach cobbler. They had pumpkin pie as well. Their Friday lunch buffet is always special.

I travel around the south and I can’t believe we have one of the few Shoneys left! Southern traditional places like this needs supported before they all disappear! Amazing breakfast bar at an amazing price that you can sit down and enjoy with your family is hard to find but definitely needed!

The most excellent food and perfect spot to eat! Tucked away next to I-65 in Clanton,Alabama,this restaurant has the best food amd friendliest people around. We travel 20 minutes every time we make a visit and we have never been disappointed one time! Highly recommend this place over every restaurant within a 50 mile radius. Wow just wow! 5☆

By the size of the crowd, I knew this was the place to be for lunch. I had the Buffet which included large salad bar, various meat, options and several vegetable dishes to choose from. On the day I went, they had fried fish that was cooked to perfection and was delicious. I only disappointing that I ate so much fish that I did not have room for salad or dessert. I would highly recommend this to anyone passing through the area looking for a fulfilling meal with a pleasant welcoming atmosphere.

Hadn’t stopped at Shoney’s before. I am glad I did. I had the lunch buffet and it was very good. A nice salad bar and the entrée selection was very good. The breaded pork chops were fantastic could cut it with a fork. My only complaint was whomever they had cutting onions for the sautéed onions needs to peel them more. The outside of the onion was still on and nasty.

Our experience today was exceptional. Abby, our server, provided outstanding service, setting a benchmark for all restaurant establishments. Her demeanor (smile) and introduction were exemplary. If she could extend her expertise to other establishments, they would undoubtedly achieve a five-star rating. We truly appreciated Abby’s service today and thank Shoney’s for providing us with such an amazing server.

Our waitress was Ms. Eva and has to be the nicest person we’ve encountered. She was tentative with our requests, always had a smile on her face, and was very friendly. This Shoney’s location has always been great and every meal we have had here has been cooked perfectly. This is a must visit location while traveling on I-65.

As a kid, I had many pleasant dining experiences at various Shoney’s Big Boy restaurants in Birmingham, but hadn’t eaten at one for years since an unpleasant lunch at the one on Hwy 119 in Pelham right before it closed years ago. But having read some positive reviews here, my wife and I decided to make a pilgrimage down to Clanton to give this one a try.
We arrived at an odd time, around 2:30pm, last Monday Jan. 29th 2024. Even at that time they were doing a brisk business. We were seated immediately at a comfortable booth and our friendly and courteous server told us about the Fresh Food Bar (see photos) and also gave us menus (ditto), explaining that menu service had been restarted around three weeks prior. Just looking through the menu, I was pleasantly surprised to see my childhood favorites like the All-American Burger and Hot Fudge Cake! Despite those temptations, my wife and I both opted for the Fresh Food Bar.
All I can say is that we were both extremely impressed with the selection and taste of the delicious items on offer, as well as the fact that all items were constantly being refreshed, even though it was the middle of the afternoon. The cold food was nicely chilled, the hot food was piping hot, and the bar was clean and tidy. Our server kept our drinks topped off throughout the meal. Altogether our meal was a surprisingly pleasant experience, and this Shoney’s is going to be a frequent stop for us on our trips between Birmingham and Montgomery.
