Absolutely Exceptional Experience at Calvillos!
Calvillo’s is hands down one of the best restaurants I’ve ever visited and easily the best in Alamosa. From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere was welcoming, the staff attentive and kind, and the entire space spotless. The cleanliness alone spoke volumes about how much care they put into every detail.
Now the food incredible! Every dish was perfectly seasoned, full of rich flavor, and made with real love. The buffet was outstanding one of the best I’ve had anywhere. The selections were diverse and fresh, and what truly stood out is that they even take special requests and cook exactly what you want. That level of service and quality is rare.
The team at Cavillo’s makes you feel like family, and you can taste the heart they pour into every plate. If you’re in Alamosa (or even passing through), do yourself a favor and eat here. You’ll leave full, happy, and already planning your next visit. Highly, highly recommended! ✨

As Mrs. Claus, I must say that even after centuries of tasting the finest North Pole feasts, our stop at Calvillo’s last night absolutely delighted me! We were overjoyed to see the buffet has returned—and oh, what a sight it was! All the classics were there: tender tamales, flavorful enchiladas, and the kind of homemade queso that makes you jiggle like a bowl full of jelly.
The chef went above and beyond as always. He even offered to whip up anything we didn’t see on the buffet. The entire staff treated us wonderfully—though I admit, having Santa Claus as my dinner date might have drawn a few extra smiles. Still, I’m certain they’re always in the nice list.
The restaurant itself is charming, decorated with beautiful, authentic Mexican touches. The true hidden gem is their trinket shop! It’s full of handmade treasures from Mexico—perfect for stocking stuffers, in my professional opinion.
And please! for the love of Christmas magic, don’t leave without trying the homemade tortillas—both flour and corn—and the flan. Oh my stars, the flan! You simply must try it!

If you find yourself in Alamosa, Calvillo’s is an absolute must-visit. Located right on Main Street, it is a true staple of the local food scene and very easy to find with convenient parking nearby. The atmosphere inside is wonderful—vibrant, authentic, and incredibly welcoming.
We stopped by for the lunch buffet, and it was a fantastic experience. There is a wide variety of dishes to choose from, and everything has that delicious, home-cooked quality. The salsa bar and fresh tortillas were definitely a highlight! The service was top-notch; the staff was attentive, friendly, and truly made us feel at home. Martin was amazing!! Was my first time stopping in here. Came with the family who lives in Alamosa. This place had a Mexican buffet! The owner Martin was amazing and very helpful. He continued to check on our table and even brought us sopapillas. I’ll definitely check it out again on my next visit in.

Food was decent, I wouldn’t say amazing, the staff was very attentive and great. I had the UFO enchiladas, rate 6/10. Husband had shredded beef chimichanga with green salsa, he says 7/10. Our child got grilled cheese and fruit, she ate it. Tres Leches cake was decent, not very sweet though like I was expecting.

We stopped in on our way south and were so glad we did. Everything was great. The Margaritas were made by the owner, who stopped by a couple of times to ask if everything was okay.. Both of our entrees were excellent and mine was a dish that I love but not many Mexican restaurants make, so I was surprised and happy to see it on the menu. And they made it perfectly.. For dessert we ordered the fried ice cream. It was huge, tasted great and included two house made churros, which were still warm and soft. The waiter was very helpful and personable and, as I said, the owner stopped by our table a couple of times to check on us and chat. Great place.

Great 2nd generation family owned restaurant. They have a buffet which looked good, but I chose to order off the menu. Fantastic shredded beef burrito that was tender and perfectly seasoned. Prices were reasonable and friendly staff. If you’re looking for good Mexican food, I definitely recommend it.

I LOVE this place!! We travel from Trinidad to Durango many times throughout the year, but normally we always travel through on a Monday or a Tuesday and we don’t get to stop because those are your days off, but today on our way home we stopped for lunch (my family of 6) and had the buffet. It was amazing! We all loved it. Can’t wait to go back. The food, atmosphere and service were great.
