RUUUUUUUUUNNNNNNNNNNNNN HERE DONT WALK. This place is amazing from the food to the decor to the staff. The Reuben Pastrami is my top 3 favorite of all time. The chef salad was like do I want veggies or do I want meat and was the perfect fat chef fantasy and excuse to saw hey at least I at some veggies on my visit. The fat queen pizza took me back to growing up in New York with perfect Cup a Char pepperonis that dripped the perfect amount of grease on your fingers. The cinnamon roll was like a pecan pie didnt know who it wanted to have a baby with either a Croissant or a cinnamon roll and they all agreed to go half on it . The chocolate chip cookie was literally as big as my face and thats massive. Ive definitely food my new all time favorite restaurant.

Everything at Pieous is made in house – mozzarella, pastries and desserts, breads etc. If you have any dietary restrictions – they can tell you exactly what is in the food. No seed oils either! Service was outstanding, and I even chatted with the owner for a while – and she was super nice!

We arrived around 10:30 so had a little time for a breakfast treat before we ordered lunch!
We started with a caramel bun – similar to cinnamon roll. The bun was delicious, soft but a little crunchy on the outside. We should have asked them to heat a little, but it was still great at room temp!

I got the two dark chocolate protein bars (one with pistachio) to take home. Bring a cooler..you will need it! The bars were also clean yet had about 20 grams of protein in them. I tried when we got home – and it was so good. I’m a dark chocolate fan, and this didn’t disappoint. It had coconut in it – I happen to love coconut, but I know some don’t including my husband! It didn’t leave an aftertaste like many protein bars do – and also didn’t have any of the additives either! Highly recommend!

They make their own mozzarella and I’m a sucker for that – so we started with the mozz salad – it had arugula, EVOO, fresh grape tomatoes, and their sourdough bread – thinly sliced (VERY thin!) that was toasted like a cracker. The mozzarella was amazing – and had great flavor while the arugula and tomatoes complimented it. My only suggestion – need more bread..and cut a tad thicker so I could load up and not have it break!

Pizza: I usually just order cheese pizza to compare with other places, but the mushroom pizza and the white pizza were calling to us! They even use real Parmigiana Reggiano!
Mushroom pizza – very good, but I’d like less shrooms next time – it was hard to pick up because the shrooms made the pizza a little too moist!
White pizza – also very good, but a little less cheese would be better (my own taste).
Both aren’t crispy crusts – but this style usually isn’t crisp..it’s more chewy. They use sourdough and it’s got that little tang in the crust which gives it great flavor!

my husband got a tiramisu- also made in house – to go, but hasn’t tried it yet! Looks good tho!!

All in all – would highly recommend- next time we go, it’s for sandwiches and more mozzarella!

Shocked. This is the best butter croissant in Austin. I said it. Flaky delicate outer layer, the perfect crisp consistency and then a soft, pillowy, springy interior with layers of butter and the perfect texture.

Not oily, burnt or way too dense like other places. They use a bit of sourdough starter but there is no residual sourdough flavor, just a natural creaminess.

We are big fans of their food, never knew their pastries were also amazing!

Best pastrami west of I-35. (Be sure and get the “juicy” version.) Small, but varied selection of beers on tap. We split the Keto plate and Ceasar salad (which was very good as well), and it made for a nice afternoon meal for two. You stand in line to order, but they bring the food to you. Their pizza is very good as well, but the pastrami is “da bomb”.

Pieous never hit my radar until I penned an article on the Best Pastrami sandwiches in Austin. One by one, comments rolled in recommending Pieous be added to the list.

When I pulled them up on Google Maps, I saw they had an Austin zip code, but they were located more than halfway to Dripping Springs off Highway 290. That’s an hour and nine minutes from my house in Manor.

I always say I will travel anywhere for good food, so on a recent Sunday morning I hopped in the car and drove to Pieous. Darn it…I forgot 290 was expanding and under construction everywhere. Add 20 more minutes to the trip.

The Parking lot was full already and I figured there was some birthday party going on. Nope, it turns out people just really like this place.

They like it for good reasons. Pieous is housed in a gorgeous facility similar to the look and feel of many breweries around Austin.

Their main inside space has long picnic tables, as well as smaller four-tops and bar seating. Pieous also has a small private room, complete with tables, couches and TVs. Beautiful outside patio too.

What Pieous does have, that many breweries don’t is really good food, led by of course – pastrami. Seriously, you can’t miss the fact they do pastrami, it’s at the top of their menu

If you think Pieous is a one-trick food pony. Oh no, patrons love their Neopolitan-style pizzas, salads, pasta and pastries. Yes, they have beer and wine for sale too. Also unique sodas, iced teas and coffees. Even Topo Chico for the hipsters.

The Food

If you’re going for pizza, they offer 16 different pies in four broad categories – The Classics, Meat Pies, Signature Pies and Vegetarian.

With so many great choices, I would try the Margherita, The Fat Queen or Rocket if you are there for your first visit. I would love to try their Bacon Bleu, or the House on Fire when I return. Check out their website for all the ingredients on each one.

I mentioned my original intent was to sample their pastrami. The half pound sandwich is $17.55. However, you can get pastrami by the pound ($28.18), as a keto plate ($21.49), as Pieous Plate ($18.48) which includes house marinated onions, a Kosher pickle and two types of mustard; or thow caution to the wind and buy the whole delicious brisket ($199.08).

Their style of pastrami is a hybrid between two styles most offered in Austin, slab, which is more like a Texas brisket or New York deli, which is thinly sliced. Pieous’ looks like it’s a little thicker sliced, but not slab.

The sandwich was incredible. You get a slightly smokey background taste, but the forward taste is whatever spice blend they are putting in their brining process. I didn’t ask about it, but whatever they are doing works well.

Pieous also offers a number of Panuozzi. For those not familiar with this Italian street food, it’s similar to the better known calzone. If this sounds like your thing, I suggest The Baby Billy ($16.63) half turkey and half pastrami, or the Prosciutto & Fresh Mozzarella ($14.55). They make the mozzarella in house, and it tastes perfect.

If you’re getting the feeling that you should make your own hour-long pilgrimage here, I have done my job well. But forget me, I’m just writing about it. Their talented and dedicated team is making the magic, every day – fresh and from scratch. #MattGoodEats

One of my favourite places to get pizza in Austin! I’ve been many times over the last 10 years and it’s always good; every time! The sourdough crust is my favourite feature of this amazing pizza! Go try the White Pie or classic Margarita asap!

My first time having neapolitan style pizza. This pizza was amazingly good as was the Caesar salad. Crust was chewy goodness with perfect char. Sauce tasted of fresh tomato picked at its peak. Establishment was new, clean and the staff were super friendly and smiley and greeted you…something hard to find these days. Wine by the glass or bottle. They have their own Pieous red or white too.

Truly outstanding pizza! It was our first visit, and we actually drove almost an hour (we live in the boonies) to get to Pieous, because everything we heard about them was THAT stellar…and now we know why! We ordered the Margherita and the Brussels & Jam – fairly simple pies, so we could really see the exceptional quality of the ingredients shine through. It’s obvious how much love and care they put into their food. And their staff is amazing! Also, plenty of vegetarian options . HIGHLY recommend.
