We are new to the area & heard good things about this place, so we decided to order carry out for lunch. Our order was ready for pick up in about 20 minutes. Everything looked good, so we ordered a variety and decided to eat buffet style at home. Everything was excellent! In the pictures, we rated each item’s spice level on a scale of 0-10. Of the dishes we ordered, I preferred the lower spice levels & he preferred the higher, but we genuinely enjoyed each of the dishes! We didn’t interact with staff much, but the online ordering process was very simple, the place was immaculate when we got there, and the staff was very friendly! I should also note that our daughter ate the entire order of Pineapple Chicken. (0 spice)

My favorite Chinese restaurant of all time! North Liberty doesn’t know how lucky they are. Highly recommend the chicken and chili oil; dry pot; hot pot; dumplings in chili oil. You really can’t go wrong! Go!!!!!!

I found my long-lost favorite restaurant in Iowa City, and it’s just as good as ever! I used to go to this spot all the time back in Ames and was heartbroken when it closed—only to later find out it had just moved to Iowa City. Grateful doesn’t even begin to cover it. The food completely lived up to my memories: the dry pot was just as incredible as I remembered, the wood ear mushrooms were , and the wontons in chili oil? Absolute perfection. This is officially a must-visit for me every time I’m in Iowa City. If you haven’t been yet… what are you waiting for?

Ordered by phone for pickup. The person who answered the phone spoke in an aggressive tone, which was not a great first impression. The Mongolian beef was mostly onions with very little beef. The most serious issue was the sesame chicken, we found pieces of plastic in the food while eating, and our child also bit into a piece of plastic and had to spit it out. This is a serious food safety concern and completely unacceptable. Very disappointed with this experience.

The food was incredibly fresh and delicious—this is easily our new favorite Chinese spot! Everything we ordered, from the lo mein and orange chicken to the egg drop soup and fried rice, was executed perfectly. The spring rolls and crab rangoons were also standouts. Beyond the food, the staff was so kind and even gave us an awesome 3D-printed Santa hat fidget toy! This is a fantastic place all around. A+, highly recommend a visit.

Brought my family here because we were all craving Chinese. Since moving here, we haven’t found one that compares to our hometown. This one not only rose to the occasion, but surpassed our expectations! The decor is very simple yet classically elegant. Our server was amazing, very personable. My 16 year old is learning mandarin and he was impressed by her. The menu!!! Wow! They include pictures of everything with a disclaimer that food may not appear like the pictures. I loved this feature! Made it easy for us to choose what we wanted. Additionally, everything we ordered was picture perfect. And the portion size, woah! We had leftovers for three days. The Taste Place is a lovely gem in North Liberty, I do think you’ll get more of an experience by actually eating there and not doing take out, it was fantastic and we will definitely be back!
