Reviews
The Tallgrass tap house is the last remnant of the old Tallgrass Brewery, a great brewery that fell victim to the change in the micro brewery conditions in the 20 teens. The good news is that you can still get awesome Tallgrass beer and you can get some really great food at the same time.
I would describe the menu as pub food plus plus. All the usual suspects are here – briers, wings, fish and chips – with a whole lot of extras. The poutine would pass in Canada. The Korean wings are amazing (and STICKY!) and Tap Mac (Mac & Cheese) will make you question how much you like your moms cooking. Vegetarian options are available though limited. Same with kids options. But thats the thing, there are options so you can go in a group with vegetarians, kids, GF and non-dairy people and all find something to eat.
Seating, parking and wait times are all going to vary with the calendar. If you dont know, Manhattan is a college town so if you show up on a random July Wednesday you will park at the door, get seated immediately and have you choice of locations. Show up on a game weekend in September and you should count on an hour, park at the mall and your table is your table.
Service is going to follow the same pattern and so will atmosphere. Busy times it going to be longer waits, less interaction with your server and LOUD. Slower times food will arrive fast, servers will talk you though the beer selections and you can gossip about people without a concern. I will leave it to you which version makes it a 4 star rather than a 5 because I know a LOT of people love the loud version.
Beer selection is seasonal but I have never had a bad beer there. If you cant find something you like, thats probably a your problem.
We get to MHK 2-3 times a year. Tap House is usually our first night or our last.
Cant recommend enough!
The atmosphere is one of the coolest parts of Tallgrass. You can see the full 10‑barrel brewhouse along with the stainless steel brewing tanks and fermenters, which adds a fun, industrial vibe to the dining experience.
Even though we were here on business and didn’t get to sample the beer, the food alone made the visit worth it. Our group ordered the Triple Dog Dare Ya entrée, which is their three‑way sausage and hot‑dog sampler.
It includes:
Pork Bratwurst – Served on a pretzel bun with house beer mustard, pulled pork, and cabbage relish. This pretzel bun ended up being the table favorite.
Andouille Sausage – Comes on a white bun with poblano pepper, yellow onion, and a Creole shrimp salad.
Bacon‑Wrapped Beef Dog – Topped with pico de gallo, sriracha sour cream, queso fresco, and cilantro on a poppyseed bun.
We also ordered the Jalapeño Popper Crab Rangoons, which were incredibly unique—crispy, spicy, and filled with a creamy crab‑jalapeño mixture. A great twist on the classic rangoon.
Two of our favorites of the night were the Pub Ale Bisque, a rich and creamy cheese‑based soup with cheddar, American, smoked gouda, bacon, crispy shallots, and parsley, pure comfort in a bowl, and the Mac & Cheese, which was extra creamy and perfectly cheesy. Both dishes are ideal if you’re craving something warm and indulgent.
Overall, Tallgrass Tap House leans a bit pricey, but the food quality, the creativity of the menu, and the warm and knowledgeable service make it worthwhile. The unique atmosphere of dining next to working brewing equipment is the cherry on top.
Definitely a spot worth visiting when you’re in Manhattan, KS.
Now let’s talk about the food incredible! Every dish was thoughtfully prepared, flavorful, and the Korean chicken wings amazing, if you have diet restrictions, or allergies, you can modify your mail selection to your requirements as well. The variety on the menu caters to all tastes. You can really tell they care about quality and consistency in everything they do.
The atmosphere was vibrant yet relaxed you have the option of eating on the bottom floor second floor or even on the roof perfect for date night, a gathering with friends, or even a solo bite at the bar. The recommendation came from my brother and a friend we went here to celebrate him for his birthday. Tallgrass Tap House has officially become one of my favorite go-to spots in Manhattan. Can’t wait to come back!
Our host/waiter was truly above and beyond great; he significantly added to the fun of our celebration. For my part, I had the teriyaki chicken wings, which were absolutely delicious! The restaurant seems to be a popular destination for all ages, from young to old.
It’s an easy walk from the Hilton Hotel on 3rd Street, and the next time I’m in Manhattan, I will definitely be eating here again. Highly recommended!
The rooftop has exclusive drinks that can’t be ordered on any other floor so make sure to book it to the roof. We came in for dinner Tuesday around 6 and we were able to snag the last table. I was praying as we climbed the three flights of stairs that they had high chairs available. Thank goodness they did! If you are unable to walk up the stairs I will let you know there isn’t an alternative to getting up there.
The menu was HUGE. It definitely took some time figuring out what I wanted to order and the vast variety of cuisine made me nervous on the quality of the food. I played it safe and got a trusty steak (steak frites) with French fries. The steak was of a quality cut but was lacking flavor outside the steaks own natural flavor profile. A touch of salt would have sealed the deal for me during the cooking process. What saved it was the oh so very delicious compound butter resting on top of the steak (I wouldn’t be so particular if the steak wasn’t $39). What really impressed me were the cocktails. Perfectly balanced and smooth.
Overall we enjoyed our experience and would recommend the restaurant to those passing through town. Thank you for the great service
Poutine was good. Cute vibe.
Would recommend and would come back.
