In 1995 founders Bruce Dean and Bob & Laurie Manley opened the first Black Bear Diner in Mt. Shasta, CA. Their mission was simple: create a fun and friendly atmosphere where the local community could enjoy huge portions of home-style cooking at a reasonable price. Today, we continue their mission at every Black Bear Diner across the country, as we passionately provide guests an outstanding experience. Went here for my brother’s 68th birthday celebration. The staff was great and very accommodating for our large party of about 20 people. Themselves got in the spirit of celebration along with us and his church family. A good time was had by all, even the waitstaff.

I don’t normally write reviews but I came in the other night with my daughters and we had such a great experience! I can’t remember our servers name she was a young girl but she was very personable to myself and my children and was very warm every time she checked in on us. I got the chicken Caesar melt and it came out quick and was also so delicious my children kept taking bites of it LOL. All around a very enjoyable experience with the staff and the food itself, we are new to the area and I can see myself coming back based on this experience alone. It’s so hard to find chain restaurants that capture that small town friendly atmosphere but this Black Bear location hits the mark!

When my family visits from out of town I always bring them here. Food is amazing always, fresh and delicious. Portions are worth the price and you leave sometimes with more food for later. Kids menu and price is great, mi 4year old loves it. Great family friendly experience.

A nice place to take your family. We went on the weekend so it was busy but the servers were very attentive, friendly and quick. I really appreciate their warmth and service. The food was good but the gravy is much too salty for my taste. Everything else was divine.

The food was decent, but nothing extraordinary. My partner ordered a pancake and I had a steak, though it turned out to be quite thin — I expected more, but I’m not one to complain.
At the end, they asked how everything was and we said it was great, just to be polite. I think they took that as a sign we’d leave a big tip.
But coming from Spain, where tipping isn’t mandatory and you usually just leave the change, it felt strange being asked to choose between 15%, 18%, or 21%. I went with 18% to be polite, but the woman’s smile faded instantly and she barely said goodbye…

Black Bear has been a regular stop for many years, as I’ve visited many while traveling. Their offering are good at a fair price. While most of their dishes I have no complaints over, in recent years, the cooks have been using a portion of the grill that is too hot in my experience. Often over-mediem is brown on the outside with runny whites, or browned and crusty scrambled eggs. Managers respond and offer to do something, but when traveling, it’s beyond fixing. This location didn’t do my eggs so bad I’d complain, but past experience made me avoid over easy or medium. Great breakfast otherwise, so choose wisely.

Ordered a medium rare steak and this came out. The server looked at me like I was crazy when we asked how it was cooked and tried to state that it was in fact medium rare. It looks like it was boiled. It was even more disappointing because it took a while to come out.

Big Juicy burgers and fries! With a Orange juice Mimosa.. Service was ok. They gave me a Bacon & Chedder burger, the wrong burger but it looked good! The California Burger I ordered was good, very filling. Great prices for amount of Good food.

My server was Daisy and she did a great job. I have 3 boys and 1of my boys commented that she was cool. He mentioned that within the first 20 minutes of being there.
My youngest was having a birthday and she took care of everything and didn’t need to be reminded.
She came around enough to take care of our needs but not to much to bug us.
Bottom line Daisy was Awesome. She was fun and attentive. I wish more servers would have this level of customer service. We will be back because of her. Thank you very much.

Maritsa, our server, was exceptional. It’s been a long time since we’ve had such great service. Thank you! The food at THIS Black Bear Diner is awesome. I wish I could say the same about the ones in Southern California.
