Food is good and fresh. The grilled chicken is well seasoned and not overly dry. Staff is friendly, just maybe not exactly clear enough about your order. Seems like the cooks interpretation of regular menu items varies on who is in the kitchen. Be very clear (and polite) with any changes. Confirm with your server. Repeat (again, POLITELY) and confirme they can do this.

It was AMAZING! The food was so yummy, I loved the pasta and the cookies were a 10/10! The service was wonderful as was the atmosphere – very nice lighting and decorative touches around the space. Overall such an amazing experience would come again!! Tears were shed – it was THAT good.

Been here twice recently and both times were fantastic. Food was delicious and very generous portions. The first time our server wasn’t the best and then asked for payment while I was literally still eating. Wasn’t too happy to have to stop and touch cash while using my hands to eat, but I let it go. Went today to celebrate Father’s day. Again food was delicious and fair price. Have enough left for another meal tomorrow. Our server today was a sweet and attentive young lady, unfortunately she didn’t have a name tag or I would love to give her some recognition. Will return again soon. Thank you for a delicious dinner.

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE – Went there last night after being on the hospital all day, I called and the lady on the phone was very nasty, I guess she had a long day so I gave her the benefit of the doubt. When I got there, the energy of this place was very unwelcoming and the lady I spoke with was sweeping, she was very rude and looked as if she didn’t want to help me. I asked her “are you good” and she goes yes why you ask? I told her that her energy was off and I felt VERY uncomfortable because of how she was acting and speaking to me. I apologized to her for ordering so late since I had been in the hospital all day and wanted a healthier option. She responds in a very nasty way “well it’s not too late our kitchen doesn’t close until 1030pm” – okay so what was the issue? Her name was Esmeralda she said – very horrible experience after I got the worst news of my life and VERY EVIL AND EERIE feeling in this restaurant!!!!!!!!!!!!!! . I will NEVER eat here again, it was very weird and unpleasant unprofessional and not to mention the food was horrible!!!!!!!!!!!! We had a fantastic dinner Sunday (Oct 26, 2025) at El Rio Grande Mexican Restaurant in Newport. We ordered the chicken fajitas and added pineapple and they were sizzling hot, perfectly seasoned, and served with fresh sides that complemented the dish beautifully. To pair with the meal, I enjoyed a tall cold Dos Equis Amber, which added a smooth, rich touch to the evening. My wife and I split an order and even hade some to take home for later. Love their chips and salsa!
The service was excellent, friendly, attentive, and quick without being rushed. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, with colorful decor and a lively vibe that made the experience even better. Portions were generous, and everything tasted fresh and authentic.
Whether you’re craving classic Mexican fare or just looking for a great spot to unwind and watch the Bengals loose another game by one point with good food and drinks, Rio Grande is a solid choice. I have been to quite a few restaurants in the Northern KY area, and this is my favorite Mexican restaurant.

I would not recommend eating here. The food had zero seasoning. The salsa had no taste it was watered down. The guacamole was very loose had no taste. I had taco salad, this is the worst Mexican restaurant I have EVER eaten at. The manager was very unprofessional and nasty she was not interested on trying to make it right all she cared about was getting paid. She could clearly see the food was not eaten.

Haven’t been back there in a few months but last time and every time I’ve been in there , the food has been absolutely wonderful. I always get the mixed steak and chicken fajitas and believe me they give you BIG portions. The prices could be a bit cheaper though, but I guess inflation is every where.

Great food & great service! I went with the classic chicken, rice and beans and nonetheless it was tasty. The portions are huge and they have really good chips and salsa. The service started out a little slow but then they really picked it up for us so by the time we left I felt satisfied with it. I would recommend this place to everyone.
