Visited this location today for lunch. 1/14/2026. We ordered a variety of hotdogs and a hamburger. The employee who was wearing gloves picked up a ball of raw hamburger using a piece of wax paper to put on the grill then proceeded to go straight to picking up hot dog buns without changing the gloves that she had used for the raw hamburger. When I voiced my concerns two different managers told me that this was acceptable and the health department allows this. I have filed a complaint with the health department and did not eat at this location.

This is the proper procedure so eat at your own risk. If this is a normal practice for this state I’d rather not eat out.

Key Pennsylvania Guidelines &
Food Safety Rules:
• Bare Hand Contact with Raw Meat: Generally acceptable, as it’s cooked later.
• Bare Hand Contact with Ready-to-Eat (RTE) Foods: Prohibited; use gloves, tongs, spatulas, or deli/wax paper as a barrier.
• Glove Changes are Critical: Even with gloves, you must change them immediately after handling raw meat, poultry, or seafood and before touching any RTE food.
• Wax Paper as a Barrier: It’s a valid barrier for RTE foods but doesn’t negate the glove change rule after raw meat.
Yes, wax paper can act as a barrier, but the core rule from Pennsylvania guidelines (like Penn State Extension) and food safety generally is: Gloves must be changed after handling raw meat and before touching ready-to-eat (RTE) foods, regardless of any barrier, to prevent cross-contamination. While wax paper or deli paper can substitute gloves for some RTE tasks, they don’t replace the need to change gloves after raw meat contact.

I am 35 years old. I’ve been eating at the hotdog shop since the beginning of my memories, but you guys have became so expensive for what it really is. I mean hot dogs are the cheapest meat and you guys make your own hotdog but how is it? A single person can come there and spend $25 Maybe even more it’s just now hard to justify not just going out and getting a steak dinner for that price and the quality has went down burgers or thinner now your fries are cold all the time I hate to give this review but it’s getting out of control. I used to truly love this place.

Ate here with my dad. The Hot Dog Shoppe offers made to order hot dogs, hamburgers and cheeseburgers, fish sandwiches, and more. Prices are extremely reasonable and the food tastes great. Will definitely return.

I’ve grown up loving hds.. even worked there in high school. They used to be a great place for a family to go to enjoy chili dogs and fries for reasonable cost. Now they raise their prices, yet again, which I get… trying times, yet their quality has gone downhill. Burnt burgers, cold fries, cold to the point the cheese doesn’t even attempt to melt, even inside take out box. We all get inflation…but don’t compromise quality as well… it’s a shame, to pay over 6$ for a 4 oz burger that’s burnt to hell and back. People can handle inflation, just make sure the quality does not deflate as well. Please do better, because I really love this place, but 3 times in a row of mediocre quality, my love is dwindling…

Breakfast is really good. Lunch is questionable especially the chilli sauce. Freezing cold inside. Get takeout breakfast like you made it at home. Great fries/potatoes

We go visit my wife’s parents every month. When we leave every Sunday morning, this is our little stop on our way out. The food is FANTASTIC! Service is FANTASTIC! Whether it’s breakfast or dinner, you just can’t beat it! Oh, and their prices are great too!! Try the hot dogs and chili fries, you won’t be disappointed.
