Great cozy spot on the north end of Columbus. Took the wife here for a birthday dinner. They greeted us very warmly and our table was ready when we arrived.

The bar area looks lively and was almost completely full – maybe one seat at the bat and a small table the only empty spaces.

Our table was big enough to comfortably seat four, so the two of us had a lot of space. There are some two-space booths, and looked just as comfortable.

The tables was set with a birthday greeting which was a nice touch. Our waitress, Lori, was very good – professional, kept up at the table and answered our questions about the menu.

We started out with drinks and each had a bowl of their French Onion soup which was delicious. My wife had the filet with asparagus and excellent mashed potatoes. My blackened chicken and ravioli was very good, a little heavy which means I just couldn’t finish it all.

We finished this wonderful meal off with a great creme brulee that had a perfect crust on it.

A final touch was the manager stopping by, helping bus the table and having a brief chat about the meal.

Ordered the prie fixe meal with the crab bisque, ribeye and chocolate mousse.

We were initially served sourdough bread that was crunchy and hot. There were 2 sets of butter, regular butter and vegeterian butter? Both were very good.

The soup was a pretty decent size. Good chunks of crabs. Delicious.

Ribeye was cooked PERFECTLY. It was well seasoned and super juicy. Usually, the dead center gets cooked to medium rare and the edges are more medium. This place, the whole steak was medium rare throughout. Probably one of the best cooked ribeyes I have had. I got the cream corn and asparagus for the sides.

By this time, I was so full so desserts had to go home with me. Staff were extremely nice and the atmosphere of the restaurant was great. Would definitely come here again!

Went for our anniversary. Since we booked on Open Table there was a question asking if we were celebrating anything, so I said so. We were delighted to see the table decorated and a card on the table. Everyone who came to the table told us happy anniversary. We were offered champagne or a free dessert. This was totally unexpected, this was our first time here, so it was truly such a nice touch. We chose the carrot cake for dessert, but were too full from the food we ate so we asked for it to go.

We went to J Gilbert’s back in February for Valentine’s Day and were relatively unimpressed. However, we went back again for a birthday and the food was much better. This time, we got calamari, prime rib, and crème brûlée. The calamari had some great sauce, the prime rib was perfectly cooked if not a little underseasoned, and the crème brûlée was fantastic. While I was hesitant at my last visit with the filet, the prime rib was great. The biggest flaw this place has is that it’s a pretty large time commitment to go. We went right when they opened and we were there for two and a half hours, with the last forty five minutes of that spent just waiting on the bill. Great food, but you’ll need to carve out a large chunk of your evening for a meal here.

This place is amazing! The staff was great. The GM was so delightful and welcoming. Our waitress Danny was so helpful, warm and knowledgeable. My wife got the raw oysters on a half shell and the mixed seafood grill. It was probably the best food she ever tasted! I decided to try the 3 course meal. OH MY! I was not ready to have such a decadent meal! Start to finish it was amazing! I had the 14oz ribeye! It was perfectly cooked and seasoned. The wood fire grill was so wonderful and tasty. I had asparagus as a side and I’m not joking when I say, I would go back just for the asparagus! Please give this place a try and tell them Gayle and Rich sent you.

Was in Columbus for Christmas and was looking for a good steak. I had heard of a few good places but the reviews on J. Gilbert was what made me go there.

I had made up my mind on what I was going to order beforehand. However, they offer a Prix fixe option for $73 which I did not previously know about. It included a starter, main course and dessert.

For my starter I had the Maryland Crab Bisque. Honestly I was expecting this to be a tiny cup….. it was not. The flavor was rich and had chunks of crab. It paired very well with the fresh baked sourdough brought to the table.

I will say the stretch of time between starter and main seemed kinda long, but is understandable as they were very busy. I feel without a starter it may have been too long to wait.

As for my main I ordered the 14 ounce ribeye (Rare) which comes with two sides. It was cooked perfectly. For the sides I had the Poblano Au Gratin potatoes x2. It was way too much food.

I was so full after the steak I had to get the dessert to go. I ordered the Crème Brûlée. It was packaged very nicely and tasted amazing at home.

Overall, I really enjoyed my trip to J. Gilbert and can’t wait to return.

We used to come to J Gilbert’s a few times a year. However it’s not as good as it used to be, we went in December 2025. The service was great, but my fiancé ordered his steak rare and it was more medium. I ordered mine medium and it was definitely well done. The sides were ok but nothing amazing.

Reservation was for 5:30, we were not sat until 5:41pm. After waiting 15min for a server, I had to go back to the hosts stand and ask for a waitress. Once she came over to us, she seemed very disordered. She never brought any of our drinks or food out, it was always another server. We both did the 3 course meal. Yet our salads came out with our main course. Trying to scarf down a salad before our steaks got cold is not typical at a place this costly. The house manager asked how things were and I informed her I was missing an entire side of mashed potatoes after being half way through my meal. On top of that I asked her to take our dirty dishes from the bread & shrimp cocktail that had sat there for almost 20min. It was our anniversary and they decorated the table very cute and we got a free dessert. The waitress threw the pie in a container and handed it to me. It was very messy. No bag or anything to carry it out nicely in. After spending nearly $300 for my husband and me to eat here for our anniversary, I’m very sad to say it wasn’t the service we had in mind and do not recommend going back. We could’ve been given a bad server. And if that’s the case, I would hope no one else experiences what we did. The steak was delicious but that was about the only thing we enjoyed that night.

We reserved a table for dinner at 8:30 on a Saturday evening. It was my best friend’s birthday dinner. They had a birthday card, complimentary dessert and some cutesy confetti on the table. This was our first time and it was a very pleasant experience.

The pineapple martini was delicious and subtle. The blackberry martini was fruity and upbeat. The cocktails are both beautifully crafted, and delicious. We agreed on the pineapple martini being the best. We shared a fried calamari appetizer and it was perfectly fried. The feta cheese was a delightful pairing with it.

The entrees were the same (outside the likes of steak temp) and the reactions were too. Ecstatic. No steak sauce needed. We saved the butter from the glorious bread provided for our steaks, the smartest decision we made this year. A touch of salt and pepper, then it’s a royal piece of meat. The Yukon potatoes were fluffy yet had tiny clumps. The asparagus seasoned nicely with a touch of tomatoes. Chefs kiss.

For dessert I had the creme brulee which was so indulgent. It’s light and fluffy to where it would be extremely easy to scrape the whole bowl clean in record time. She had the carrot cake slice. Which is ENORMOUS. The cake was the only left over piece of heaven from this restaurant. I am seriously anticipating my next visit.

Exceptional.

Filet, salmon, lamb, very good.

Atmosphere is warm and comfortable.

Service is excellent.

The sour cream and onion martini isn’t nearly as strange as it sounds. It’s worth trying. Fairly standard if slightly dirty with a sprig of dill as garnish, served with a small side cup of sour cream and onion chips to emphasize the experience.
