In 1948, two first cousins, Jack Hemmer and Tom Mirgon, formed a partnership to create a restaurant business specializing in homemade ice cream products. With only four tables and counter seating for seven, they opened a small business on Linden Avenue in Zanesville , Ohio. Jack Hemmer Ice Cream soon outgrew its original location, and in October 1950 they moved their restaurant to its present location at 532 McIntire Ave. About Tom’s Ice Cream Bowl In 1953, Tom bought Jack’s interest in the business, leaving his own career with the Pure Oil Company, to own and operate the restaurant full-time. In 1957 it became known as Tom’s Ice Cream Bowl.
Long-established ice cream parlor whipping up a wide range of frozen treats, from scoops to sundaes.

A true treasure! It’s like stepping back in time! The servers are efficient, kind, and helpful! The cooks get it right the first time every time. Terrific menu specials that are not to be missed!! Tom’s even offers other local treasures, such as locally made chocolates and cakes! As iconic as the Y-bridge herself! When in Z-Ville, go here! Or, I should say, visit Z-Ville to eat here! Warm, affordable, hospitable!

If you live in Zanesville and have never been to Tom’s, you must live under a rock—or have very strict orders from your dietician. If you’re new to Zanesville, or just passing through, go ahead and make Tom’s your stop. Now for the crazy part: I just found out yesterday that they serve breakfast! What?!?! So what did I do? I made that my very next stop. Now I can recommend Tom’s for all three meals, and, of course, Ice Cream, chocolates, and nuts. (You gotta try the warm, salty cashews! So good on their ice cream.)

This place was extremely busy so there was nowhere to sit inside. Even the line for getting items to go was very busy. It took awhile before we were noticed to be helped but the peanuts and ice cream were both delicious. There was also outside seating in front and to the side of the building.

Always a great experience here. I don’t live in the area, and it had been too long since I last visited. A burger and sundae hot the spot. Nothing wrong with the burger, it gets me to the ice cream, which is why I walk through the door anyway. Sometimes I wonder what it would look like if the sundae builders made their sandwiches. Look at that sundae! Every time it looks like that, all wonderfully gooey and dripping. Beautiful. Lots of flavors of ice cream, multiple topping combinations, and I think the prices are very reasonable. I’ve never been there on the weekend, but it is never too busy to get a seat during the week.
Great service and atmosphere. My family is now jealous and may think twice before turning down a trip to Zanesville next time.

So good. We live around two hours away and that’s for the best, because we would frequent this place way too often if we lived closer. Delicious ice cream, amazing toppings, and affordable food with an atmosphere frozen in time. Don’t miss it!

All the food they have there is great and high quality. The wait time for your food is almost nothing, they grilled cheese and waffle fries came very quickly and the sundae came while others at my table were still ordering. The candy is also very good. The atmosphere is great and you feel like you are back in time. I would recommend it and I would go again.

Tom’s is a family tradition! We are on our 5th generation enjoying the candy, nuts, delicious food, and amazing ice cream. We reserved their party room for our family of 25. The waitress was friendly, organized, and had a great memory. The kitchen was fast and everything arrived hot! The ice cream was fantastic and generous as always. Thank you for a fantastic afternoon.
