Great restaurant for a date night or catch up with friends. I liked the fact that street parking was plentiful and the restaurant had a lot of open space. Our group started with the grilled oysters and calamari. Oysters had a great buttery flavor and the calamari was standard. The beet and salmon salad was delicious and fresh. For our mains we had the Ribeye, gumbo, and pasta with scallops. The gumbo was packed with seafood and flavor, a must get. The ribeye was standard, but ours came a little over cooked. Lastly if you are looking for a cheesy seafood pasta they got it. I liked this restaurant a lot from the food, the staff, and the ambiance.

This was a great experience. I came with two friends who ordered oysters and shared the cioppino. They enjoyed this dish and highly recommended it. I ordered the creamy garlic scallop pasta without pancetta. It had a light creamy taste and lots of flavor. We all shared cheesy garlic bread and a lemon tart dessert. Yum!

I did order the ginger spritz, I believe it was called and found it to be refreshing. Lastly, Rachel provided friendly and attentive service. I’m sure next I visit, I’ll be back. Highly recommend.

Patio dining 4/18/2021. Tonight we had their calamari, clams, fish tacos, garlic scallop pasta, house pasta, mussels, oysters, lobster burger and shrimp tacos. Almost everything tasted great. The service was excellent. The only thing I didn’t like was my long island ice tea. It was weak and did not contain alcohol. It was all ice. We were going to order more drinks but didn’t want to risk it. Overall, it was a good meal. Thank you Rustic House.

I’ve come here many times and it is always yummy! I first found this place through an ad facebook and they had an awesome deal for a BOGO lobster roll. Coming here during their happy hour is great because the apps are cheaper!

Lobster Roll – The lobster roll is absolutely delicious, the bread they use for the roll always reminds me of texas toast, so buttery and good. It’s a great lobster meat to bread ratio (by that I mean lots of lobster!!). The potato wedges that come on the side are usually made to perfection but the last time we went, they were a little underdone and not super crispy- hopefully just a one time thing!

Appetizers/Dessert – I’ve been here during happy hour and tried the raw oysters which were fresh and delicious as well as their calamari which is just as tasty. I’ve also tried the key lime pie for dessert once which was a classic and a great way to end the meal.

Come Again? Yes! This is a great seafood spot for a date night or a nice dinner. The staff is always really friendly and we always have a good time here!

Always great to dine here. Every time I’m around, the service, food, and atmosphere are great. Big fan of the Fanny Bay oysters. It’s tough to find oysters in the Bay area, but Rustic house is a great choice for appetizers and drinks after work, or a full meal! Parking is easy on the street, and the staff is always super kind. One of my favorite haunts in the Bay.

Three stars because the person that sat us provided paper menus and never mentioned that the cube
in the middle of the table was another way to see the menu. The paper menu was so hard to read because the letters were super small, and I felt like I was grading someone’s homework. However, the food and service were good. I had a salmon, which was cooked to perfection. We also had the bourbon oysters and crispy calamari. The mango margarita and the bloody mojito were great! To end our supper, we had a three leches taramisu with coffee flavor. I recommend it 100%. It was about $178.00 for two people. The place looks clean and it is quiet. Parking space is limited, you cannpark on the streets and it is limited to two hours. It is kid friendly.

The seafood jambalaya was nice, and the portions very generous. The S’mores and the ice cream flight was plentiful and everyone really enjoyed them.

The service was okay. They came to refill our waters, and asked us if we were okay semi-regularly.

The ambiance was okay. It’s rustic and had plenty of space

I’m not sure why there are so many negative reviews for this place, but do not let it steer you away.

We came here one day after work and ordered lunch to go.  The people who helped me were super nice and helpful in deciding what to order since it was our first time here.

The place was pretty busy for a weekday, and the ambiance definitely spoke volumes.  It was chill, yet inviting, and it looked like it had some history.

We ordered:

1.  Cheesy garlic bread with crab meat – We have never tried anything like this before, but I’m glad we did.  It was amazing. It was cheesy and garlicky, but you can still taste the tender crab meat.

2.  Double crunch popcorn shrimp – It is not your ordinary popcorn shrimp. It was super crunchy and was not overcooked.  It’s definitely so flavorful that it didn’t need the sauce.  The sauce, though, was different and tasty as well. Not it usual cocktail or tartar sauce here.

3.  Tacos- We did a sampler where you can pick two tacos. We did the wild alaskan cod fried and grilled shrimp.  The wild Alaskan was crunchy and so flaky. The shrimp taco- they did not skimp on the shrimp.

4.  Lobster roll – When I first looked at it.  I was like, man, it’s tiny. But it was a-mazing. I loved the bread it was on.

5. Surf & Turf burger – I’m not gonna lie, I was skeptical. Surf and turf always sound good but not all in one bite if that makes sense. But when I tried it… it was . My senses were awakened, and I was just on another level.

6.  Sangria – I ordered this while I was waiting for my food.  Thought it was a little pricey for the amount you get. It had way too much ice. He told me it was strong, but I’ve had better.  I had another drink in mind, but I decided not to because the bartender had the mix book in hand, which meant to me that he’s not familiar with making the drink I wanted.

Overall, the food was amazing. All items were served piping hot and fresh.  I definitely highly recommend this place and will be back soon to try other items.

Update June 2024: Even better than before. 5 stars. Their pasta with scallops and pancetta is a treasure.

Rustic House is truly a San Carlos and a Peninsual gem. I couldn’t believe how we had not checked this place out for 5 years living nearby. It is essentially a seafood joint cooked with down-to-earth comfort food style in a unique rustic industrial cannery / beach shack.

Every detail of the interior gives that old factory rustic feel which absolutely adds to your experience. It comes across modern yet homely. Familiar yet different. It will absolutely pass for a date night if need be.

The food is a bit on the pricey side but my god, the seafood is fresh. The oysters were delicious and the crab meat on a cheese toast was sublime. Yes… 6 pieces at $28. But I feel it is absolutely worth it. The pasta with scallop and pancetta was wonderful and other fries and drinks on point. The food can come across bland for some but it clearly shows off the freshness of the underlying ingredients.

With great service, Rustic House is an absolute must return. The overall experience is simply unmatched. I would’ve expected to have this feel perhaps somewhere in Monterey. Heck it’s done better in San Carlos.

Thank you Loni ❤️ the best fish and chips I have had yet! 3 large pieces of cod the batter was not greasy or to salty a must they have all kinds of fresh seafood menu plus other non fishy items. My favorite hands down was the whiskey bloody Mary it has a smokey I asked for spicy rim. Oyster deals you won’t find anywhere else.
I am definitely recommending this one 100 plus.❤️
