Reviews
To preface, we had just come from a long and delayed flight and were starving.
When we walked in, we were not even greeted, which is fine, all we wanted was food anyway. One of us requested yellow rice and she said “let me check if we have it”, and they did not. Then, another one of us asks for a strawberry lemonade and she says “let me check if we have it” and as she was doing that, the manager comes up not in uniform and just looks at us confused. He later took the hoodie off and revealed that he was in fact the manager so we were like hm, weird.
Then, my fianceé and I get our bowls, which we had both ordered a tropichops all the way, and they were both missing the peppers and onions. So I ask if she can add them, and she says “oh we don’t have any”. I’m like “okay…”. This would’ve been nice information to know before I ordered it.
Then finally, our friend got her plate which was a chicken platter and it was missing the roll, so she goes up and asks for it, to which the lady replies “oh, it only comes with 1 roll.” And my friend says “yes, I didn’t get it” and then she goes back to the kitchen, comes back, and says “oh we’re out of rolls that’s why they didn’t give you one”. So then she offers a different side, my friend picks Yuka Fries.
2 mins later, she comes out with plantains and says “the yuka fries are not fresh and it would take a long time so would you like these sweet plantains?” And at this point we’re obviously over it and my friend says “just leave them.”
It’s very clear that because it’s later at night, mixed with the fact that this establishment is run by a bunch of teenagers, one of them being their manager, they didn’t want to keep preparing food so they could close quicker which I would understand if it wasn’t 2 whole hours before they’re supposed to close.
Complete disappointment
It was our first time trying out Pollo Tropical and I’m so glad we did. They took great care of us and it really started our vacation off on a high point. The grilled chicken is so good! Both the bone in chicken and thigh which our kids got and the breast meat on the bowls.
So tasty! The Caesar salads were nice, and the grilled quesadilla wrap was lovely as well. The fries were crispy and very flavorful.
Prices are not bad as well! We got the regular size for our bowls and no one went hungry.
Can’t wait to come back again! We’ll probably make it a tradition when we get in to town to stop by.
Overall we think it’s pretty good value for the food quality, quantity and flavor. Kids enjoyed it very much as well.
The grilled chicken tasted better than fried with the smoky flavor.
