This place is fantastic! My cranberry bread pudding and eggs/bacon were delicious. As was the Portuguese sweet bread with my wife’s omelette.

Nice looking eatery. Extremely noisy environment to dine in. The 3 conversations at the tables across the room were clear as a bell. Very difficult to hear my dining partner, I do not have any auditory issues.
The staff were polite and helpful but I don’t care to get up from my table to get everything I may need after the food delivery. Its a self service eatery. The eggs Benedict were very good, the soprosetta sandwich was dry. The mustard was extremely light and the bread was a little tough to my liking. The coffee was good. The chocolate eclair had excellent cream but the chocolate had very little flavor for being a dark chocolate. The pumpkin cheesecake was excellent .

Upon entering, it can be a little confusing if you’ve never been here before. Daily printed menus are available on a counter in front of a long pastry case at the entrance. The order register is at the end, where you place your order, pay and obtain a number. The option of a tip is also available at this time. Beverage service as well as bussing your table are self service. Our order was brought to the table quickly, according to our numbers, and all our food was absolutely delicious! The lunch menu ranges from full breakfast all day, a variety of coffees to salads, hot and cold sandwiches and melts with many vegetarian options. The hearty quiche servings we ordered were very generous and tasty, with light phyllo dough crust and creamy egg fillings. The tomato basil soup and roasted potato sides were flavorful and nicely seasoned. The caprese chicken wrap was generous with tender chicken, fresh tomatoes, lettuce, mozzerella, and pesto in a warm tomato basil wrap. We had a pleasant sufficiency, and did not order dessert. No service staff came to our table during the meal, and I don’t know if this is expected due to the self service nature here. The atmosphere was welcoming, and even though the lunch service was busy, everything seemed to be running smoothly. The most busy time seems to be weekday breakfast or weekend brunch. The self service was a little surprising, but worked well, especially with the busy meal service. Individual and full sized desserts including cakes, pies, and pastries are available at the front case as well as a variety of breads. Outdoor dining is available seasonally, when weather permits. This dining experience was very pleasant, with excellent food and nice surroundings.

A friend and I chose this location for lunch, as the choices are limited in this area on Monday. Ordering went OK, but the small dining area was hot, and there were unsightly multiple air conditioning units plugged into the ceiling, that were not very effective. My friend ordered the chicken salad croissant, which held wilted lettuce on the sandwich and as garnish. There was only less than a tablespoon of chicken salad on each half of her sandwich. She took it back to the cashier, and waited a considerable period of time before a freshly made, more vibrant sandwich was brought. She deemed the chicken salad good. I ordered eggs Benedict on a croissant. The sandwich had Canadian bacon, with two poached eggs covered with a light hollandaise. The top of the untoasted croissant was placed on the plate to make the plate look fuller, withn the same sprig of that wilted lettuce. I noted all sides were expensive a la cart, and have not been way in the past. The egg/ hollandaise flavor was light, and the saltiness of the bacon was most prominent. I don’t think I’d order it again. Both dishes were a poor value considering the food received. This visit was sub par based on my previous visits. We left a very poor tip, based on the self service nature of this restaurant, the atmosphere, and the low food quality.

Went back and read more reviews from others. There used to be fuller plates with sides, and 5 star reviews. Recent reviews note the same issues we did. Loud atmosphere, poor quality cooking and food. Seems the quality is now gone from this once wonderful place. I hope they can get it back.

The food here is fantastic. I have gotten their salmon hash browns twice and they are divine. The eggs are made to perfection and the hash browns are so crispy and lovely. Today I got a caramel mocha and it was one of the best coffees I have had. My boyfriend got the French toast cinnamon rolls and really enjoyed them. I’ve been to both the Brambleton location and the Vinton. The Brambleton one seems much more popular and get a little rowdy inside. The Vinton one is a bit quieter. Overall you’re not going to be disappointed! Lots of yummy food choices and the staff are great at both locations.

This has become one of our favorite breakfast places. Cinnamon rolls are excellent when available. Eggs are always perfectly cooked (hate undercooked omelettes!) and the bacon is delicious.
Every dessert we’ve taken home has been wonderful.

(2024) We came back again for Dickens of a Christmas. Since we stay at the Hotel Roanoke, we went to a new location on Jefferson St. You can read my review about that location. We were very disappointed. The following day, we went to the Brambleton Ave location. The food is great & our favorite is the French Dark Hot Cocoa! Keep in mind, if you go during a busy time, pack a lot of patience & grace!
(2023)We are from out of town…about 3 hrs away. We came to Roanoke for the Dickens of a Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony. When we arrived in town, we wanted to get a bite to eat before our dinner reservation (5 hrs & we hadn’t eaten all day). So stopped in at Our Daily Bread. The hardest thing was deciding what to get. We already had plans to eat brunch here on our way out of town the next day. For lunch we had salmon bouillabaisse (YUM!) And turkey gouda melt…oh & if u haven’t tried their French hot chocolate . The following day for brunch we had nutella & fruit crepes, sweet cream cheese crepes w/fruit compote, whole grain toast w/Scrambled eggs, shashashuma (?) And more French hot chocolate. I don’t think you can go wrong w/anything they serve. We brought some goodies home as well…napoleon, Belize, lemon bar & opera. We tried them all – delish BUT my fave was the opera.

This is an exceptional bakery. Absolutely decadent, creatively crafted, quality desserts. The service is very good as well. The only reason I give it a 4 instead of a 5 is because the macaroons were not as desirable. It could just be be an off day, but they were very disappointing, especially with how good everything else is. Other than that, this place is perfect.

I try to visit Our Daily Bread everytime I am in Roanoke/Salem. Numerous visits have always delivered a great experience. The breads and baked goods are second to none, breakfast and entrees are equally as satisfying.

I ordered the turkey dinner this visit. It started with a cup of clam chowder with toasted bread ends and bits. The chowder was rich, bright, and flavorful. The bread ends and bits were perfect for dipping.

The turkey was moist, tender, and had a holiday flavor of sage. The potatoes were roasted to perfection. A great meal all around. I can’t wait for my next visit.

Our Daily Bread Bakery & Bistro was absolutely delicious! As soon as you walk in you are greeted with the smell of a Heavenly bakery. You place your order atbthe counter and pay. You are handed a table number and they bring you your meal.

The French toast with the berry compote is the best French toast I’ve ever eaten. It did not need the whipped cream, powdered sugar or syrup. It was perfect.

My husband got hash browns, corned beef, sausage and eggs over medium he said his breakfast was delicious as well. The coffee was hot and strong.

The restaurant was very clean and the staff extremely friendly. Job well done!

It was a bizarre experience. We stood by the door for several minutes. No one came up to seat us. Several staff members were awkwardly staring at us like we were doing something wrong. We looked around to see if there were signs explaining that we needed to stand somewhere else, or perhaps seat ourselves. There ofcourse were none. It seems they’ve become complacent. They have their usual customers, so they have no interest in inviting in new ones. We left and found a place that provided an actual service and appreciated our business.
