EXCELLENT!!! We were in Wichita for one day and the husband wanted breakfast. We found this gem on trip advisor and gave it a go.
Greeted at the door by friendly faces and were waited on quickly.
Restaurant, though in an old building was spotless!
I had the liver & onions – not a dish all chefs can manage but this was just right! Not cooked to death. Tender & juicy. Real mashed potatoes and the best ranch I’ve ever had (better than Mazzios!).
Hubby had a classic breakfast. All fresh, hot & cooked to perfection.
Did I mention their rolls. Coffee was great too!
The only thing I’d change is real butter for those incredible rolls & biscuits.

Wonderful cafe in the heart of downtown. Seasoned wait staff & friendly service. The wait usually isn’t too long and the service is always great. Home cooked meals in generous portions. We come here most Sundays & have frequented the place for at least 20 years. This is a great place to have brunch as long as you don’t mind the character of the place. If you’re too bougie go to Home Grown.

Decided to have a brunch date with my guy, I had never been to the Beacon but he had and said it was great. The outside is very deceiving as I thought it was a very tiny restaurant, and was nervous about the parking, but it actually has another side so you get in and out pretty fast and if their lot was full there was plenty of street space. Pumpkin was our waitress, she was fantastic! The food was amazing too nothing to complain about other than we asked for our hash browns extra crispy and they weren’t but they were still enjoyed. We had the chicken fried chicken with eggs and a biscuit with gravy and the other was their Traditional meal of an open-faced English muffin with eggs, cheese and bacon. Definitely a place we will visit again! Really, the service, made it fun!

Amazing classic styled diner for breakfast. Can’t speak on their lunch/brunch items but this is probably one of the most fairly priced restaurants there is. The portions are great, the breakfast is filling whilst delicious and staff is pleasant!

I don’t typically compare but to me this is equivalent to homegrown but significantly cheaper and same quality if not better. 5 stars all around!

Love the “old fashioned diner” experience! Food is delicious! The cinnamon roll is the size of a dinner plate. My husband loves their chicken fried steak breakfast. Extremely friendly staff. Pancakes are the best. We just love this place.

This is not my first visit to the Beacon. All of my other visits have been during the week, and my experience has been much better.

This visit was on a busy Saturday morning at 11am, so perhaps that might put things in context for some, and maybe for the restaurant management.

The Beacon is a typical local diner with great prices, portions and selection. On all of my previous visits, the food was exactly as expected, and I believe I’ve left positive reviews on prior visits. Always for breakfast and usually with friends, we all enjoyed our meals, to include special requests (crispy bacon, hash browns well done, etc.)

Generally, if my experience is subpar, I just don’t leave a review. My philosophy is, it just wasn’t for me, and I really don’t like leaving negativity online, bad karma and all….

On this visit I ordered pancakes with strawberries, two over medium eggs, and coffee.

Specifically, my experience today was ruined by the chef, let me explain.

A few bites into my pancakes I noticed that the strawberry sauce that covered the top was refrigerator cold. Sad, but not a show stopper as I had hoped that the hot pancakes would somewhat warm the strawberries and sauce.

It took about 35 minutes for my meal to be served, but again, not complaining about the time it took because it was a busy Saturday. Anyway, the strawberries never warmed up which was unpleasant, but as I dug into the pancakes I started to see what looked like melted butter, until I realized that it was raw pancake batter. 75 percent of the pancake was completely raw.

Okay, an oversight due to being slammed. Got it, not a big deal.

The waitress was lovely, apologetic, and quick to return to the kitchen and try and get things back on track. You’ll note I rate the service as excellent.

20+ minutes later my replacement pancake (I reduced my order to one pancake because they’re ridiculously large), finally arrived, and now I’m annoyed. Maybe because I’m sitting at the counter with a clear view of the kitchen, grill, and cooks, and I’m watching all of the other orders being heaved onto the service counter, but I would have expected to have been bumped to the front of the queue and not wait nearly a half hour for one replacement pancake.

When it arrived, it was slightly overdone, and the strawberries, yep, cold like they just came out of the refrigerator.

Dear Beacon management: Over to you.

I have not been here for a while but got disappointed cuz this place used to be good breakfast brunch few years ago. Not sure why the downhill. Got omelet and it was just okay. No flavor at all. Potatoes, nothing special about it. Huge cinnamon. Service from our waiter was good.

This place is soooo good I love their burritos my wife got their biscuits and gravy and she loved them for a family of 5 with 3 under 6 cost us less than 45 dollars. It was amazing definitely gonna be our new go to anytime we are in wichita. Heather definitely is the best waitress hands down will eat here again.

Amazing old school family diner with larger portions of quality food. The super friendly staff is what makes it so comfortable. Plus it’s locally owned. I definitely recommend for breakfast or lunch.

The hashbrowns were my favorite part. They were so buttery and good. The sausage links tasted fresh and good.
The restaurant though was dirty and extremely crowded/cramped. Definitely not wheelchair friendly. Could barely walk in the aisles unless we were facing sideways.
