Frankie’s opened in 1912 on the Embarcadero and still serves classic dishes, cold drinks, and clear bay views. Stop in before or after a Giants game. Relax on the waterfront, watch sports, or grab takeout. The Heffernan family purchased the restaurant in 2018 to honor Frankie Michael Heffernan, a lifelong Giants fan. The South Beach Pier 40 location is known for brunch, fish tacos, smash burgers, craft cocktails, clam chowder, and outdoor seating with a bay view. We are open 2.5 hours before first pitch every Giants home game regardless what our hours say!

The food was good for the most part. One small note, the fries were pretty heavy on the salt and could definitely use a lighter hand there. Aside from that, everything was enjoyable and well prepared, and nothing felt like a miss.
They offer a wide variety of food options, which is nice if you’re with a group or have different preferences. There’s also a solid selection of drink options, making it easy to find something whether you’re in the mood for coffee, something refreshing, or a casual bite and sip.
Service is where this place could improve. The staff weren’t rude, but they also weren’t very welcoming or talkative. A bit more friendliness and engagement would go a long way in making the experience feel warmer and more inviting.
Tip is already included and they do have a line for “additional tip” so keep an eye for that when paying.
If you’re a fan of In-n-Out burger, then you’ll love the smash burger. It’s got a thousand island sauce reminiscent of the fast food chain, but elevated with caramelized onions, fresh pickles, double smashed patties, and a soft brioche bun.
I’m a BIG fan of bread and butter pickles and was pleasantly surprised by their addition in the burger — but if you don’t like the flavor of them, make sure to order yours without. The fries were good, though nothing particularly special. The tables all had mustard, ketchup, and hot sauce, so if you’re a fellow saucy guy like myself you can add to your heart’s content!
The service was really great. We ordered two burgers but only one came out — after about 10 minutes of waiting, we told the bartender and he realized he never put the other one in (and hadn’t charged us for it on our order). He was very apologetic and quickly brought us the second one, on the house! It was an honest mistake, and he made sure to make it right. They clearly value their customers here, and we appreciate that!!
The vibe here is no-frills but is really clean with a bit of a 50’s diner feel. There were lots of diners on their way to the Giants game (as we were walking over to Frankie’s, we heard a mom in a Giants jersey telling her family how good Frankie’s was and how close they were to the restaurant. They arrived just after us!)
You can expect the food to come out quickly and the beer to be cold. Let’s go Giants!!!
Stopped by for a smash burger and a beer . The smash burger was tasty and came with fries . The fries were perfectly cooked!
Very good beer selection. Got a barebottle Muir Woods hazy IPA. Excellent and would definitely come back again.
Sat outside in the patio. Weather was hot so it was perfect to hang out.
Service was friendly and helpful. Thank you for a great meal.
