Was one of our stops pretty frequently when visiting St.Louis over last few years. Their little jellies are tasty and their truffles are decent. Unfortunately last two times we’ve been in, it has really really smelled bad in there. Very off-putting. The first time, back in November, I wrote it off as an unfortunately placed garbage can (right next too the front door). But we were just in there again yesterday and immediately I’m hit with a real funk when walking in. Garbage can is still there so MAYBE that’s it; regardless I can’t be the only one that notices how horrific the shop smells upon arrival.

Very good chocolate. Unfortunately they charge an 11% surcharge for higher business cost or something along those lines. If your costs have increased do what every other company does and raise your posted prices. If I wanted to pay add on charges I would go to a car dealership. Leaves a bad taste in your mouth, pun intended.

Four stars because the store has a sign asking customers to wear a mask, but the staff were not wearing them.
Everything chocolate you could possibly want. Gifts, snacks, treats. I don’t have much of a sweet tooth, but I bought a mole sauce. The store smelled heavenly and I could have stayed even longer.
I will definitely remember Kakao when I want to find gifts for the chocolate lovers in my life.

They nickel and dime you and hide service fees. Their chocolates cost $2 a piece and are tasty, but when you buy a 16 piece box they not only charge you for $2/piece but then another $2 for the box. Then on top of that they are now charging an 11% “Shifting Economy Service Charge” to cover their costs for tariffs. The problem is that it’s not something they tell you up front. They claim that signage is posted at the door and register, but I never saw such signage. If prices have to go up because of tariffs, then raise the prices. Don’t hide it and charge it on top without explicating telling people. Had the actual price been increased and shown on the tags, I still would have bought the item and wouldn’t have given it another thought. But it was because I saw the posted price and then later was charged the fee without knowing such a fee was going to be charged, that’s where I have an issue. Although their chocolate tastes good, their business practices leave a bad taste in my mouth. Won’t go back.

I know people who would mortgage their children for a trip through Kakoa. They have a great variety of flavors, and the chocolate is made fresh. If you have a yen for chocolate, you should spend your summer vacation here.

Heard about this local chocolate shop and we had to visit this place. The first thing we were greeted with were fresh samples and they did not disappoint in the least bit. Prices are expected for specialty shop but we got a great assortment of candies, chocolates and ICE CREAM for a good price. Shopping local is always nice, cool here to see their entire operation in the open.

Chocolates are amazing. Everything we purchased is delicious. Staff was very unfriendly. Our group of 6 adults were the only people in the store, one person set their picks on the counter so that they could gather more items, the guy who was working asked if they were ready to check out, the person from our group said no and asked if the items were in the other customers way, the female worker said “yes it is” with a snotty attitude. One person from our group asked if they had a shirt in a size not out, and the worker seemed very bothered to even be asked such a stupid question… no only the two shirts out are what they have. Said nothing else to us except while giving us our totals, never said thank you, goodbye, no niceties. I don’t like being treated like I’m putting an employee out to purchase their products.

Saying this as kindly as possible and merely wanting to leave my experience. I mean no I’ll will, I just wanted to voice my thoughts. The truffles are certainly nice, which is why I came there. The website said they were $34 for a 16-piece. When I showed up and purchased them at the counter, I’m asked “which box would you like,” so I chose one. When paying, the price seemed off, but I thought that was due to taxes. When leaving and checking the receipt, it was at least $5 off. I called and asked why and was told the box had a cost and wasn’t free. I asked if there were any free boxes to choose and they said there wasn’t. I’m just confused because how do I get 16 truffles home without putting them in a box? Plus, I wasn’t given an option to not use a box. Also, looking at the receipt, it doesn’t differentiate that the box costed; it lumps the truffles and box together. To me, this added fee for the box just felt deceptive. And for $5? Again, I’m not intending to smear or ridicule. I just think those things should’ve been made more clear in the transaction process.

I tried a sample of the Mexican bark about a month ago. It was delicious and the store clerk was very pleasant and efficient. I was going to come back soon to buy some but didn’t get around to it. I saw the Kakao Mexican bark at the History Museum in Forest Park. I was very happy to see it available there. I bought it for my husband’s birthday and he liked it very much. The hint of red pepper and cinnamon was perfect, he said.
