I had one of the best meals I’ve had in a long time at La Yaroa in Norfolk. The food was absolutely incredible — so flavorful, fresh, and truly authentic Island comfort food. Every bite tasted amazing and perfectly seasoned. You can tell they really care about the quality of what they serve.
Our server Alexa made the whole experience even better. She was so friendly, attentive, and welcoming, constantly checking on us and making sure everything was perfect. Her energy and kindness made us feel like regulars even though it was our first time there.
The portions were generous, the flavors were amazing, and the atmosphere felt warm and inviting. If you’re looking for real Spanish food done right, this place is a must. Between the outstanding food and Alexa’s phenomenal service, I’ll definitely be coming back again and again. Highly recommend!

We ordered on Uber Eats 45 minutes ahead of time and when we arrived the food was not ready yet.
When we walked in no one greeted us acknowledged us or made eye contact and at least 3 employees passed by. A simple “we will be right with you” goes a long way.
We waited at least another 20 minutes before the food was ready. We got to the car to make sure we had everything. We did not. The pasteles were missing.
We went back inside and asked for the pasteles we ordered and paid for. They said they didn’t have any BUT NEVER TOLD US ANYTHING. Like what the heck? You know an item is missing but say absolutely nothing??
The woman we spoke to said they only have them sometimes and seemed to have no idea about their menu. We asked for a refund and you would think we asked for something insane because no one had any idea of what to do to refund us maybe that’s why they didn’t want to tell us they had none. During Christmas time mind you.
The food is good. I would say it’s more Dominican than Puerto Rican. I still haven’t received a refund. If they can get it together customer service wise and getting food out in a timely manner I think it has a lot of potential to be a great place especially since the food is good. But for right now if ld recommend checking out other places.

Service and food was just okay. They charge for everything extra, sauces included. I had the shrimp and my friend had the steak. It was cooked under. She asked for medium. It was nothing spectacular but it got us full.

This is my first time eating Puerto Rican food. I looked at the reviews before I placed an order. All of the reviews that read were positive. So I placed an order when I received my food. It was still hot and the portion was excellent. I’m very big on portion size. I don’t mind painting if the portions are hefty everything was so flavorful. The beef empanada was excellent. I will definitely be ordering again from them.

First time visiting this quaint restaurant to try Puerto Rican cuisine and delighted we chose this establishment! Our server was knowledgeable and made wonderful recommendations- including an item that was not on the menu- the Ferris Wheel of delicious appetizers! Such a memorable presentation to sample – empanadas, yucca, carne frita, and chicharron de pollo. Main dish I enjoyed was the Mofongo- Cameron’s a La Ajiilo- full of flavor and the shrimps were gianormous. The price point for the portion was on spot- not overpriced for the amount of food we ordered. Definitely recommend dining here if you’re looking for authentic food that is made fresh!

This was our first time at LA Yaroa Tropical and the service and food were amazing. I had the Tostones replenish Ceviche de Cameron’s (Photo) and it was absolutely delicious! I give this restaurant a 5 star rating on everything and if you are in the Norfolk, VA area, it is a must stop, but come hungry!

La Yaroa is an excellent spot that truly captures the heart of Hispanic culture! From the lively atmosphere to the flavorful menu, everything was on point. Our waitress was incredibly friendly and made sure we got our food quickly. She even recommended coming back on Fridays and Saturdays for their Latino Club nights—definitely something we’re looking forward to. Great service, delicious food, and a fun vibe all around. We’ll absolutely be returning!
