Another fantastic meal! My wife and I eat here on the way to Myrtle Beach…it is worth it!! Always the freshest seafood! I got the “everything” platter except clams…delicious! My wife got the sautéed shrimp and scallops…wonderful!

The food was excellent with a wide variety of choices. The decor matches the coastal theme that it should for the area. The server was great; she took great care of us. The hostess was minimally friendly. The guy who took our money at the register was also minimally friendly. Other than this the place was phenomenal.

Adorable seafood restaurant in Calabash. Everything was delicious, service was very friendly, and the atmosphere was pleasant and charming. A table of 7 adults and 2 highchairs was seated immediately for a late Sunday Lunch at a reasonable price. Overall excellent time, and I highly recommend!

Ordered the Okra Basket, a house side salad with no dressing, and the small seafood platter and kids flounder filet. The food was decent and the service was quick. Everyone at the table agreed that the hush puppies were the standout of the meal.

Plenty of Fried Calabash Style Seafood to Go Around

I definitely need to learn more about the history of Calabash style seafood, because here just about everything comes fried (though there are plenty of nonfried options too). The décor is fun, the volume was perfect for a date night, and the energy in the room was shared. Everyone was having a great time.

Like most spots in the area, the meal started with hush puppies.. huge, golden, and delicious. The honey butter makes them special, and I liked that they came complimentary. The lemon pepper calamari was more complicated and confusing, it had a burnt like flavor at first, but after a few bites and plenty of lemon juice, it started to work. You just need to take some time to figure where the flavors are coming from. (You need to ask for lemons, they don’t come with it) Still, the oil pooling in the basket turned me off, and I wouldn’t order it again.

The “stuffed” flounder was tasty, though a bit misleading? It’s more of a fillet split down the middle with filling in between. I enjoyed the full shrimp and crab tucked inside, but the skin left under the fish made me pause for a second (maybe that’s normal?). On the sides, the coleslaw was sweet and refreshing vs a more vinegar approach, while my fries were disappointing lacking crispness, salt, and flavor. I’d go for the baked potato next time.

We also tried the Calabash shrimp and deviled crab combo plate. The shrimp missed the crunch and seasoning I was hoping for, but the deviled crab was unique. Not necessarily my favorite but it was somewhere between a crab pot pie and a sweet hush puppy flavor. Meanwhile, my 1 year old happily worked through her spaghetti, so at least it passed that test.

Overall, the atmosphere here had a good weekend energy and was overall enjoyable, but the food missed the mark in several places for me. Not sure I’d rush back. I’m going with four stars because I’m not the best fish food critic, but if you’re into fried fish you should try it out. It seems like a calabash staple and the staff was extremely nice/helpful.

My daughter and I stopped by Beck’s on a Tuesday afternoon, and the place was packed—which immediately told me the food had to be good. Our server greeted us right away and was incredibly sweet. We ordered the steam pot for two, and wow… it was huge—definitely more than enough for two people—and absolutely delicious. Every bite was worth it.

A hidden gem, This place has excellent food without the flare, it has best hush puppies in the Gran Strand, small seafood platter had more than enough shrimp, oysters, and fish, also very good margarita and Bloody Mary

My shrimp was delicious and Debbie was a wonderful waitress. Even more helpful – the staff were extremely helpful and patient when one of our group had a medical emergency. I can’t thank them enough for their support and patience.

We went to Beck’s for the first time for our 42nd anniversary. We heard a lot of good reviews and wanted to try it. The hush puppies that were brought as an appetizer were delicious and filling and we didn’t think that they needed any of the honey butter that came with them. I had the shrimp and grits and I ate about 1/2 of it. This was the best shrimp and grits that I’ve had, it was very flavorful, creamy and very well cooked. My wife had the shrimp and scallops and it was equally as good. Both dishes arrived hot and were ample portions. We will definitely come back.
