If you’re Lucy you can find street parking in Monroe street, otherwise you’ll need to park on a side street a bit away.
The food is very good through 2 or 5 dishes had too much salt in them – the Salmon is a constant staple and very good on their daily rotating menu, but the rice was too salty – which was a shame.
Service was excellent.
The carrot cake is made at Kettle Black and very good. A close rival to the carrot cakes from Madison Sour Dough who sets the high bar.
Dishes are generally shared plates and tasty. The duck looked very good but after ordering we were too full.
The meal came to about $50 per person and seemed a fair value.
Kettle Black seems like the kind of restaurant you can visit without getting tired of the menu. If they can get the salt under control on the salmon and the olive toast it’ll get 5 stars from me.
Of note, the chocolate dessert – a dense delicious pudding was really good and worth trying.
The restaurant was smaller than expected which was nice because it read intimate, which I appreciated.
Upon entering it’s difficult to know what to do because there isn’t a host stand and there really isn’t anyone to greet you. Went to the bar and was pointed to our table. For a day like valentines, the lack of care was a bit odd but we move.
We ordered:
Cheddar biscuits – the internet said these were a must have! My husband loved them but I thought they were a bit crunchy but still super tasty.
Brisket empanadas – I will typically order an available dumpling in any restaurant I go to. I didn’t love these. The presentation was weird. They looked like bread. With that said, the brisket was well seasoned and cooked well. I would have preferred a finer cut on the brisket instead of the chunks. I also don’t know if I felt the empanadas were a good fit for the menu; seemed a bit out of place.
Brisket farfalle – 10/10! Loved this. I added salt and pepper and it was perfect. Noodles cooked perfectly with the entire dish being so flavorful.
Pork chop – 15/10! Star of the show. Eats like a steak. Thick cut. Flavored perfectly.
Overall this restaurant is 5/5! There were a few things that I didn’t love but that’s just more personal preference than a failure of the establishment. I’m eager to visit the restaurant again to try more things on the menu.
Onto dinner. The salmon was just the right spice or heat. Our waitress informed us about the heat on it. We both thought it was just right. Not over the top. The pappardelle noodles were cooked perfectly. The flavor was soooo good. Excellent dish. Both were right up our alley.
The dessert was carrot cake and it was not super dense. It was light and delicious. Coconut. No raisins. I like raisins but my wife doesn’t. Happy middle ground. I don’t mind. Cake was perfect.
Great service and very attentive. Thank you
