If you haven’t been to The Original Pancake House, you’re missing out on a Jersey classic. They’ve been serving the same pancakes since the 1950s — who would’ve thought they figured out how to make perfect pancakes before civil rights were even a thing?
When you first walk in, the place looks old, small, and a little overcrowded. It’s not flashy. No trendy lighting. No reclaimed wood tables. But what they lack in bells and whistles, they more than make up for with ridiculously good food and genuinely wonderful service.
My coffee was hot (and stayed hot), my bacon was perfectly crispy and flavorful, and my pancakes? Absolute perfection. Light, fluffy, buttery — the kind that barely need syrup but you pour it on anyway because you deserve joy.
The best part was how fast the food came out. We barely had time to settle in before plates were on the table. The worst part? Looking down and realizing I only had one bite of pancake left. A true tragedy.
The buttermilk original pancakes are a must-order. No gimmicks, just classic done right.
We’ll definitely be back. Hope to see you there.

I came here not expecting much because I’m not even a pancake person… and I’m gluten allergic. So my expectations were basically low.
But WOW. I just had the best gluten-free coconut pancakes of my life right here in NJ. And I’ve tried a lot of sad, dry, cardboard like gluten-free pancakes before. This was NOT that.
These pancakes were moist, fluffy, soft and had this amazing unique texture. Honestly? They tasted even better than regular gluten pancakes!
Also, the staff were so kind and patient even when our kids basically redecorated the table with crumbs, powder sugar and syrup. They just smiled and were incredibly sweet about it.
I’ve been dreaming about those gluten-free coconut pancakes ever since. Going back very soon. Highly, highly recommend!

Went here for brunch on a Saturday. The food was pretty good especially the strawberry and banana pales. Home fries were krispy and went right along with the vegetable style pancakes. Coffee was on point as well. My only complaint is with the water glasses smelled and seemed like not using soap to clean them.

Not coming again my fiancé said this is her favorite breakfast spot I shut it down she will not be eating here again I forbid it! Home fires look a week old and tasted old! the steak had no flavor an chewy the egg where cook incorrectly. The coffee tasted like it was two day old.the only two things I can say that was good was the the orange juice and the waitress she was pleasantly nice. Oh yes one last thing the decor looks like the Ortiz funeral home on Fordham Road

This is my first time at the original house of pancakes. I am definitely a breakfast gal – all my life. For some reason, I never have been here and boy that will change! The service was absolutely outstanding, the coffee cups are so adorable – especially if you get the blue. But the best part and the most important part was how delicious the pancakes were. I got the coconut pancakes and had them add pecans. Highly highly recommend. We also got the Dutch Garden egg. Very interesting the way it’s presented. I forgot to take a picture of it and I’m so sad but I’m sure it’s on their website. The Apple pancake is interesting, but I like normal pancakes more. You can have pancakes with your eggs, but you only get small two small pancakes if you do. I recommend that you get a few orders of different pancakes and shared them at the table. My order of coconut pancakes came with at least six or seven pancakes, arranged in a circular presentation. Whipped cream was amazing on top, even though I never order whipped cream.
Another thing I must mention is your orange strawberry juice. Pieces of oranges and strawberries I miss the fantastic tasting juice should not be bypassed. All I know is that I would have a hard time coming back and not ordering the coconut pancakes with pecans added. I’m in love with this place

The best waffles I have had – The Original Pancake House in West Caldwell ( estd. 1938)
It is cozy inside, like a cabin.
I ordered the Blueberry Waffle which came with blueberry compote.
The waffle was super soft and slightly moist and I preferred this texture to the crispy ones you get elsewhere. Everything is made from scratch on the same day; old traditions are gold.
The blueberry compote tasted like what you imagined it would looking at photos in magazines in India. Yes, one of the few times looks didn’t disappoint.
Coffee was great – better than S- bucks hehe.
Highly recommended.

You are greeted with a smile and a warm voice and everyone is sooo friendly and pleasant! I guess they hold the name for a reason lol the pancakes are great!!!!! I am super picky with my pancakes but mmmm just right! I love that they have the option for dark roast coffee However, I wasn’t pleased with the eggs or home potatoes. They did remove the potatoes off my bill without me asking, because I just didn’t like them and she asked if I did and I wanted to be honest. But I definitely didn’t expect them to remove it from the bill so that was really nice and I appreciated that. If I am in the mood for just pancakes I will make my way here!

I recommend to come here as early as possible!! For Father’s Day, we arrived at 8:30 got seated within 15 mins and were not rushed to leave when we were finished. We left around 10:30 and we saw the long line outside and people waiting to be seated inside. This place is so good they opened a whole additional area to accommodate the larger crowd but I think they still need more space! The pancakes are unlike anything else I’ve had, they’re a delicious yeasty pancake, the skillets are well made and the omelettes are super big and fluffy. We also have a tradition of getting the apple pancake with ice cream when available and it is always delicious, a thicker custardy apple cinnamon thing of beauty.

I went to The Original Pancake House, and even though there was a line, the wait was definitely worth it. I ordered the strawberry pancakes, and they were absolutely delicious. Fluffy, flavorful, and hit the spot this place knows how to do breakfast right!

Get here early or make reservations. This place is always packed, parking lot stays full.
Came on a Sunday around 11am, and the place was packed with people parking in the neighboring bank parking lot. Table for 2, only had to wait about 15 minutes before being seated.
Our server greeted us promptly and was very attentive to our tables needs, despite her having a large party to wait on as well.
Food came out quickly. We had the pecan pancakes and the strawberry waffles with bacon and eggs. The pancakes are huge but tasty, I didn’t want to stop but I physically had to. I couldn’t finish everything I ordered.
This is always a good breakfast spot to stop at and has been consistent for years. The wait is definitely worth it.
