I was invited here by my boss at the end of a successful business trip and was not disappointed. Very unique flavours very differently from what you usually get. Everything tastes more “down to earth”. My faves were the Yuca Fries and the Quails – plus you can’t go wrong with a Bison steak. Unconventional and delicious. You absolutely need to reserve for dinner.

Absolutely loved my dinner and since I’m nursing the end of a cold, I had the Feel Good tea which was delicious! My husband had the cranberry margarita which he said was delicious as well. We had the bison skirt steak and the stuffed poblanos with marichou (caramelized sweet corn) and wow! Everything was delicious and the poblanos had a nice bit of heat to them. This was our 2nd time eating here and honestly we need to come more often to experience everything on the menu!

Visited this location in late December 2025.
Had a reservation for this visit as we were from out of town. We own the chefs cookbook and were excited to try out their food in person.
When entering, they had an area to safely place your coats if desired, and the front team member helped keep an eye out.
Service from the wait staff was on point. We received an explanation about the food and portion sizes (order X small plates per person).
They answered a few questions and even made some suggestions.
The tea was pretty good, and water refilled when needed.
Food brought as ordered and no concerns there. Good variety and was tasty. Even had some food left over and was able to take it home.
The corn cakes were fantastic, but the winner for me was their stuffed poblanos.
Would visit if in the area again.

If you are looking for a unique dining experience, look no further. All the food is based on the American Indian way of food. If you have dairy or gluten allergies you are in good company. You won’t find any dairy, gluten, cane sugar, and a few other things I am forgetting.

We started with sharing plates. The buffalo chili is very hearty and savory with a nice kick. Goes very well with the yuca fries. For the sauce sides we ordered Wojapi sauce which is very nice and sweet as well as the Green pepin mole is a spicy kick with herbal notes.

The sweet potatos are more savory then your typical orange sweet potato and come with a huge syrupy pond if chili oil. As a group of six we ordered the Red snapper. Buttery and melts in your mouth. Served just like fish should be: head, tail, and all.
For dessert we shared all three. The spoon bread is dense with spicy kick in your pants. Not something id get again but good to try. Unfortunately, this dish had a moldy raspberry which I had to take a star away for.

The custard is amazing. Sweet and creamy. And the most unique are the Corn cookies. Very thick and chewy. Nutty. With hints of maple and dates. But it’s made with sun flower nut butter so after learning that I can definitely taste the seeds.

I have been wanting to go here since they opened and finally made it! I can not say enough good things. Our waitress was wonderful and offered lots of amazing suggestions for us to try and they did not disappoint. It is an honor to have such amazing culture, history and love in each bite. The view from the restaurant was gorgeous too. The bison skirt steak is a must try and the mushroom chowder was a favorite for all of us. My husband usually turns up his nose to sweet potatoes but the white sweet potatoes were a hit! To finish off the night we recommend the Zhiishiibaawan custard! Thank you Owamni for a wonderful dinning experience. We will be back.

This place is a thought experiment! What would fine dining look like in this land, if the white men never arrived.. Food was delicious, interesting, thought provoking. I particularly enjoyed the magnificent mushroom chowder. Restaurant’s setting in the Owamni Land is also quite wonderful, overlooking Mississippi. My humble suggestion, if I had to come up with one, would be to play native music instead of western pop/jazz ( don’t get me wrong the music was not bad.) Overall it has been quite a treat!! Would love to come back one day.

We had an amazing cultural food experience! Each dish is carefully crafted with indigenous ingredients. The cocktails and drinks are also specially crafted.

Our favorite dishes were the wild meat tartare, and the bone marrow. The yucca fries were out of this world! We especially loved their crafted, mimosa and duck fat Manhattan. All of our other food and drinks were delicious as well. We already want to go back for the cod and the ribeye, which looked amazing on our neighbors tables.

We were happy to be able to support such a unique endeavor by a renowned indigenous chef. We highly recommend the food and experience.

I’ve been wanting to come here for years, but wasn’t able to make it happen until now. It didn’t disappoint. The food was absolutely as incredible as I’d hoped. The hostess, what I would guess was a manager, and our server were all really friendly and made us feel very welcome.

The view from our table was beautiful overlooking the river and trail.

I would highly recommend dining here!

Owamni was a truly unique dining experience. I really liked supporting the Native American indigenous foods initiative and the concept of rejecting colonial ingredients (wheat flour, chicken, cane sugar, beef, dairy). The dishes were tastier than I expected, including the bean dip + smoked whitefish which was actually delicious. Hand harvested wild rice and bison ribeye were also yummy. I think the ribeye sauce overwhelmed the flavor of the meat but it was still one of the best bisons I’ve ever had. Expensive meal but worth the stop when in Minneapolis. Shout out to Tyler for the warm hospitality and service!

TL;DR Must stop in Minneapolis for the unique Native American dining experience!

Local ingredients native to the area pre-colonization (think no refined sugars, but rather use agave or honey or maple syrup as a sweetener) in a gorgeous spot overlooking the Mississippi River. So, so, so good! Maple black beans. Wild rice and beans stuffed poblanos. White bean and smoked fish dip. Smoked turkey greens. Mushroom soup with sage oil. And a phenomenal blueberry sour beer (which led us to Pryes Brewing later in the evening). Staff we’re very friendly. Good portions and a solid variety for different pallets.
