Delicious fish fry! I got the cod and shrimp dinner and it was amazing! I feel bad giving service a 4/5 stars, she worked her butt off, but there should have been more waiting staff. It was packed and she was slow to return with drinks and food. SHE WAS GREAT but everything took too long due to there only being two women serving the whole restaurant.

I’ve enjoyed the Riverside a handful of times over the years on a snowmobile, and stopped back this weekend for the first time in warm weather after visiting the McCarthy Beach State Park, and it did not disappoint. Hand breaded onion rings that were lightly breaded and not greasy, solid wings with an “old school” type buffalo-garlic sauce, and the walleye hoagie that I had on my first visit over a decade ago and did not disappoint (fish done perfectly, just the right amount of sauce and super fresh greens, and a tasty hoagie). On top of this our server was wonderful – friendly (most important) and also very timely with everything. Despite stopping in the middle of the afternoon (normal lull time), everything was done very well. Great local place with good people and good food.

We went for dinner on a Friday night and had the fish fry and shrimp with fries. The fish was cod, which was fine, the shrimp were pretty good, and the fries were just ok, but had the taste of oil used to fry the fish. Our waitress was pretty busy, but took care of us (party of 8). The dining are we were seated in had fairly dirty floors in a non traffic area and cobwebs in the corners and along the windows. The table and chairs were clean, but the overall cleanliness of the room needs attention.

Riverside inn is a premier stopping place if you are visiting the Side Lake area on the Iron Range. Totally remodeled and really beautiful calm atmosphere. The food and bar area are amazing!!

The food was good but somehow a club with onion rings, 1lb of wings, 1 coors light & two IPA’s was over $50. Pretty sure that math doesn’t add up. We even questioned it but ended up paying the tab & left, won’t be back.

The restaurant itself is absolutely beautiful — I had high hopes — but unfortunately, the service left a lot to be desired. When we arrived, it wasn’t even busy. Only a few tables were occupied, so I expected things to go smoothly. Instead, it took several minutes just to get our menus.
We ordered drinks and appetizers, and at that time I also placed an order for a small pepperoni pizza for my daughter. Our appetizers came out fine, and a little while later, I ordered entrees for my husband and me. Our food arrived, but the pizza never did.
Not knowing how long it would take — I ended up sharing my meal with my daughter while we waited. Throughout all this, our waiter never checked in other than when he dropped off our food and I just figured her pizza would be next as he only has two hands. However, No “how’s everything?” or “need anything?” — he was just gone. I kept looking around and finally spotted the bartender, so I went up to ask.
She was writing something and cut me off with, “I’m writing your tab.” I let her know we were still waiting on a pizza, and she seemed confused. About five minutes later, they brought out the pizza to go. By then, we had to leave — my daughter didn’t even get to eat her meal at the table.
There was no real apology. The bartender muttered a quick “sorry” as we left, and the waiter never said a word — just dropped the bill off and disappeared.
It’s a shame because the space is truly lovely, but the lack of care and attention really ruined the experience. If you’re looking for good service and a reliable meal, I’d recommend skipping this place and heading up the road to Bimbo’s instead.

We always stop here when visiting friends in Side Lake. Awesome restaurant, fun interior and it doesn’t break the bank when eating here. Breakfast buffet is great. Awesome Carmel rolls and egg bake.
I’d definitely recommend to anyone in the area looking for a nice place to relax when you’re up north
