On Feb. 13th, 1930 during the height of the great depression, I.N. Nick Bullington opened the 10 stool Texas Tavern and began serving its famous bowls of Chile, hamburgers, hotdogs, and Cheesy Westerns. With a no frills atmosphere and the motto Give the customer a fair shake the Texas Tavern has become a landmark and a rite of passage for many locals and visitors alike. Known as Roanoke’s Millionaires Club”, Texas Tavern is still run by the same family, now in its 4th generation of ownership.
Family-owned since 1930, this 24/7 diner offers breakfast, burgers, sandwiches & its popular chili.

It’s a small place with a simple menu.
Very low prices, the burgers are small but still a bargain for the money.
If you’re in the area, coming here is a must, even if you re going out to dinner, you can come here first for a snack. It’s more about the experience of a place like this, there aren’t many of these anymore.
Definitely recommend especially if you have kids, you’ll want them to see it, besides.. what kid doesn’t enjoy burgers or hot dogs?
Not very clean, not very friendly
A staff friend was there (a “hang-a-round) who tried to make awkward conversation and kept stepping in the back, when not suggesting what I should have to drink.
Hotdog was meh and they don’t even have Texas Pete???, the number one sauce for hotdogs in America especially in the South?? I was given some dollar general Mexican sauce. Painted nicely on the outside but inside looks like it wasn’t cleaned but painted red and white over the grime then more grime has accumulated on that. I was hoping for history and a friendly atmosphere but got food and water (no tea, cause who drinks tea in the South?). Maybe I got a bad day ♂️ Been wanting to try for awhile…Just disappointing.
