We stopped by for lunch at Cottage Cafe in Livingston TX today.
This little Cafe is truly a small town gem hidden in a secluded corner off the scenic loop. Small, warm, literally a quaint country cottage interior with a splash of light yellow and heavy on love. Ms Deb who mans this place is an amazing host. The service here is friendly yet fast, no frills, and gels so well with the whole aura of the place. There is a sign on the wall (one of many) that says ‘Raised on country sunshine’ and I believe Ms Debbie was one who was raised on country sunshine because it reflects in her food.
I am always looking for small mom and pops where the owners cook themselves, because the food is just different when so. And at Cottage Cafe, you can taste love and country sunshine in the food Ms Deb places before you. Food cooked by her own hands and heart, down to earth goodness, soul pleasing.
Today we were offered a serving of scalloped potatoes with a side of carrots.
The potatoes were tender yet firm enough to enjoy biting into without it turning to mush. Tossed in a soft warm cheese sauce with hearty chunks of ham, these were a pleasure to taste. And the warm sliced carrots lightly sweet. And then the piece de resistance, the freaking yeast roll, soft, warm, sliced through the middle and buttered !! Yes, buttered !! Like one needs love to think up a touch like that. Her hamburger basket was a hit with my co diner. He polished it off with a smile. Every last crumb…gone.

I have to say this. We are blessed in Livingston TX. We have mom and pop run little cafe’s that are hidden gems that deserve so much more exposure and felicitation. I hope places like Cottage Cafe thrive. It would be a fitting thank you to people like Ms Deb, who has the wrinkles to prove her experience and the flavor in her food to prove her love, who day after day share that country sunshine with all of us, one lunch special at a time.

Friendly little cafe! We were in town for a wedding and stopped in here for lunch. The employees and guest dining in were so friendly. Food was great too! I got the club sandwich and husband got the burger. We plan to go back for breakfast too!

This cafe is a hidden gem along Lake Livingston. My party and I stopped there for breakfast. The food was top notch – “Just like Mom used to make”! My girlfriend had the biscuits and gravy and was glad she ordered just one – the portion was HUGE. I had the 2-egg combo with grits and let me tell you, those had to be the best grits I’ve eaten in quite some time. Another lady in our party had the Chicken & Waffles and they were just as visually appealing as they were delicious. We will definitely be coming back on future trips to the lake.

We stopped in Saturday 7/12 for a late lunch. The service was fantastic. We ordered cheeseburgers. I had onion rings, and he had fries. Burgers were cooked to perfection. The onion rings had a great batter on them. I wanted to try the dessert but was too full.

First time I visited Cottage Cafe this morning for breakfast about 6:30, but definitely not my last. The biscuits and gravy were the best I have had in long time. Ms. Debbie the owner the only one present this early made me feel like I was part of the family. This is a jewel hid in the woods of Livingston. Thanks Ms. Debbie for making me feel like feel like more than just then a paying customer.

I could go on and on about this cafe. Fast and punctual service. The biscuit and gravy is delicious. Eggs were cooked to perfection. The owner came over to ensure everything was good which speaks volume. Definitely a small cafe that if you’re in the area you don’t want to miss out.
