We chose this place because it’s in our neighborhood and the reviews looked decent, which now feels genuinely confusing. After spending $60, we took a few bites and threw the rest away. The food was flat-out inedible.
The sushi was poorly constructed, overwhelmingly fishy, and mushy. The tempura shrimp was soggy instead of crisp, the rolls were a wet mess, and the gyoza was rubbery, bland, and tasted like it had been sitting around all day. The “garlic” edamame had virtually no garlic or flavor at all, it looked like someone waved a clove near it and called it done.
To add insult to injury, they included only two packets of soy sauce for the entire order. For this price point, the quality is unacceptable. Either we were served an incredibly bad batch, or the people leaving glowing reviews have extremely low standards. Either way, this was a complete waste of money and one of the worst takeout experiences we’ve had.

What a gem. The sushi here was amazing and the staff went above and beyond to take care of us. If you want quality fish, come here, you won’t be disappointed.

This place was worst every bite. The owner was very personable and took care of us. This sushi quality is amazing they could definitely charge more if they wanted but the price is so reasonable. If I lived in the area, I would come here every day.

We went here because of word of mouth. This was a birthday dinner and the place we had planned to go was closed. Unlike the cafeteria atmosphere of Mikuni’s, this place is small and personal. The staff was pleasant and it reminded me of some of the small neighborhood family restaurants we used to go to when I lived in Japan. The waitress took our order but the chefs making it brought it to our table. No matter what restaurant I go to, my goto order is a Chirashi don. The fish isn’t hidden and the flavor isn’t covered in a sauce. Sauces and rolls are a way to hide lower grade fish. The fish was good. When my wife and I were unable to finish our order, they packaged it with fresh wasabi and ginger. This was refreshing. Other restaurants typically haven’t done this. Usually, they give you a styrofoam container to drop it into. We ordered the gyoza for an appetizer but I was surprised to see takoyaki on the menu. I can’t remember the last time I have seen this offered. I will be going back.

Eating here was genuinely one of the best experiences! The staff went so above and beyond and gave us so many deserts for free to help us celebrate an engagement! The chef was the sweetest man and came out to ask how the food was, to which everyone in the group agreed unanimously was the best sushi we have had all year. My only complaint is that I don’t live close enough to come more often. The food was that good!!

We decided on a last minute sushi place and they gave us exceptional service. Food was great , the chef brought out beautifully plated sushi and sashimi with gold flakes. And after our meal we were presented with a fruit assortment as well on the house. Definitely would come back and recommend 10/10!

Another awesome experience at Nara! This was our third time here and once again we were blown away by the delicious and fresh food. Staff was great and very attentive. We have had so many delicious rolls but I think my favorite is the Folsom City so far. Prices are excellent and they do not compromise on the quality.

This place is the best sushi spot we have found in the El Dorado Hills area by far. Rolls were delicious and reasonably priced. Staff is so kind and the sushi chef is amazing. My sister got basic salmon rolls and avocado rolls. I ordered a spider roll and a spicy tuna fried roll. I never even took a picture of mine but just started eating. Delicious.

Karen and I travel frequently and try Japanese food from the east coast to the west. We have been to at least 8 restaurants in the Sacramento region, from Krue to Mikuni. Nara rates very high on our list because it’s menu is much more diverse than the average. Tonight we had appetizers, one of which was a unexpected deep fried oysters and dipping sauce. A nice surprise! One entree was a lobster roll. See photo attached. The second was double spicy tuna wrapped in tuna. Both of these we never had before. Lastly we were served a beautiful fruit desert by the chef himself. See photo. The service and ambiance were awesome. We have vowed to return soon. I will recommend Nara to my Sushi eating friends and family.

I cannot sing Nara Sushi’s praises enough. The rolls are on the expensive side but they are so worth it! You can tell all the ingredients are FRESH. It was absolutely delicious. The staff was absolutely amazing. Our waitress was constantly checking in on us. The chef even made my daughter’s an orange koala dessert. Free of charge! It was so beautiful my youngest cried when her sister ate it. Finally, Nara Sushi would be a great restaurant to go during your hour lunch break. We were in a hurry because we had Mass soon. We were out within an hour!
