Some food te lleva a otro lugar… this one had me mentally in the Bx before I even finished chewing!

Eating at New Nelly’s Restaurant II, I’m suddenly not in New Paltz anymore. I’m uptown. I’m in the Bronx… I’m in my fiancée’s tía’s kitchen, getting judged silently for not taking enough rice while pans are going con-con in the background.

We ordered the bistec encebollado with rice and beans, my fiancée went with the pernil, and of course we shared the maduros (because that’s just understood). Everything came out heavy in the right way, seasoned with confidence, no second-guessing… that’s the kind of Dominican food this is. No explanations, no substitutions, no “elevated” nonsense. Just plates that whisper “Qué lo que”… this is familiar flavor territory 🙂

It’s not fancy. It’s not trying to be, and trying this spot in my new neighborhood was a relief!! Turns out moving to New Paltz doesn’t mean I’m entering a flavor desert. We’re gonna be just fine. KLK. Come bien y no hagas tantas preguntas.

Pete the owner/chef was very helpful explaining everything. The crispy slice of pork skin he added to top of the peril lunch was a mouth of heaven. Got two pasteles to take home with thorough cooking instructions. The tres leches cake was the hands down star and I ate it with my fingers in the car. Wish I had bought the whole cake.

I don’t know man. It’s way overpriced for mediocre food, lacking on the seasoning department and just straight up overpriced… I’ve gotten just straight up white rice and it costed me 8 dollars, like what?!?! Same thing with the beans, I once just went in for a container of beans JUST BEANS- 8 dollars. Like bro what are these prices!? Lady doesn’t even tell me the price, she just rings me up. I was expecting atleast 5$ for JUST beans or JUST rice, but 8 bucks? In this economy? And again, the food is just mediocre, it’s not seasoned so well, the beans were literally tasteless it’s like they’re cutting costs….

Nice small place. Food is displayed buffet style. I recommend the potato salad. We ordered white rice & ted beans with stew beef, lunch order. Empanadas, chicken soup, baked chicken with maduros, all tasted good.

The food is not bad. I’ve been here twice in the last 2 weeks. I was excited about some Dominican food next to my restaurant.

Super expensive, flavors are not fully authentic. The staff seems nice. The space is not really inviting or conducive to anything more than one table.

I hate to leave a review like this but to leave spending $35 for a meal that should have been $11 tops anywhere else at a Dominican place like this with food steam tables is a little bit disheartening.

I would only recommend if you’re looking for mediocre Dominican food and be willing to spend more money than it’s worth.

I am posting a picture of a place that I go to in Middletown, New York. Two meals, authentic food with two sodas $21

Got food around 5p in the middle of the week. The rice was old and smushy. The beef stew was okay but i barely got any beef. Chicken and cheese empanada was okay until i discovered large, hard pieces of possible gristle in my mouth. Maduros were perfect. Dude was pretty cool. I would order fresh if i went again.
Pros:
-Its a spanish spot
-beef and cheese empanada/maduros
Cons:
-Not nearly enough meat for the price!
-Old smushy rice
-Lacking flavor
-A bit pricey

There food is very disappointing. And very expensive. My fiance is Dominican and almost every time we have had food from there she is extremely disappointed. The last order will be our last. Do yourself a favor don’t go there.

I really like this place. Good food and not too much hazzle.

You get your Dominican fix and then you are on your way. Is definitely a bit on the pricey side for rice and beans but what isn’t these days.

My favorite part are the little Dominican touch on how the place is decorated.
